Mission Bay

We went for a walk on Mission Bay again today – it’s one of my favourite walks in Auckland!

Enjoying the sea breeze at Mission Bay in Auckland

Mmm - can you smell the sea air?

I love running along the beach and chasing the leaves blowing across the sand. And I especially love it when my humans throw my ball or my stick toy – I gallop like crazy after it and try to catch it with a big pounce but I always sort of overshoot it and end up with lots of sand in my face…

Ready...set...GO!

Oooph!

Gotcha!

Dogs are only allowed on the beach in the Winter months (from Oct to Apr) and only before 10am or after 4pm, which is really unfair I think. It would be so nice to be able to go all the time. I am always really careful on the beach – my humans have taught me that it’s really rude to run up to strangers and jump on them or to steal food from their hands and if little humans called ‘children’ look scared of me and run away making funny noises, I should just leave them alone. My humans also taught me to ALWAYS go back to them immediately when they say “COME”. Maybe if more dogs were taught good manners like me, then they would let dogs on the beaches all the time…

Sometimes, I meet my friends on the beach to have a play together!

Lots of people come to Mission Bay – it’s got a really nice atmosphere, with lots of cafes and restaurants which have their doors open and people sit at tables on the pavement and look at the sea. I like walking past all the tables and sniffing all the delicous smells but my humans get really mad at me if I try to have a little taste from somebody’s plate – it’s only a little taste! And it’s just at the right height for me too…(sigh). There is also a beautiful fountain – Hsin-Yi always likes to take photos of me there…

Mmm - my special treat!

As a special treat, sometimes my humans take me to the ice-cream shop and I get to have a raspberry sorbet…YUMMMMMMMM.

Here is a video of one of my walks on Mission Bay…

There are always big buses full of Chinese and Japanese tourists that come to Mission Bay and they always want to take photos with me…Hsin-Yi says that if she had a dollar for every time someone asked to take a photo with me, she’d be really rich by now! :)
