I had a training class today with Flip, who is one of my favourite humans after Hsin-Yi and Paul. He is a dog trainer and he has training centre called Flip’s Top Dog, where lots of dogs take their humans to see him for help. My best friend, Ombre, is also in Flip’s class with me – and also my friend, George, the Bernese Mountain Dog; Sam the ‘SPCA Special’ – and a new dog, a Doberman called Magnus, who Hsin-Yi says is a very handsome boy.
I love Flip’s classes because we get to try lots of different kinds of training and it’s great fun – there is no shouting and nobody is frowny serious, like at my class at All Breeds Obedience Club. Today, we were trying the “K9 Games” which were invented by a very famous vet and behaviourist called Ian Dunbar and they are really good because they help us practise important training exercises but are still really fun at the same time.
(for more information, go to Ian Dunbar’s website: Dog Star Daily)
The first game was called ‘Musical Sits’ - all the humans were laughing lots and lots although us dogs were a bit confused. Our own human would tell us to sit and then rush to sit on an empty chair, if they could find one – but then the other humans would run around, acting silly, telling us to get up!
And then we played another game called ‘Doggie Dash’ - this one was REALLY exciting! We had to run as fast as we could when our humans called – and the first dog to sit after we crossed the line was the winner….that was me!!
Here is a video of us playing the games:
