(This post is dedicated to my friends, the Dughallmore Beagles in Scotland!
)
Last weekend my friend, Kira the German Shepherd, and her human invited us to go watch them perform at the Auckland Highland Games.
This is a special day every year for the humans who came to New Zealand from a faraway place called “Scotland” - so they can meet together to remember the place they came from and do Scottish things.
Here is a video of our day at the Highland Games – watch my friend Kira jumping the fire hoops!
It was a lovely sunny day and there was so much to see! My humans were very excited to see a kind of cow called “Highland Cattle” which originally came from Scotland and have very big horns! Here is a baby one enjoying some petting from children:
It was a bit noisy because there were humans making a special kind of Scottish music with things called “bagpipes” – my human, Hsin-Yi, likes the sound of them because they remind her of when she visited Scotland; she says Scotland is the most wild and beautiful place on earth, aside from New Zealand, of course!
Loads of people & children kept wanting to come up and pat me all the time – my humans said I was almost as big an attraction as the special Scottish things!
Everyone always likes to shake hands with me – and you know how us Great Danes LOVE to give our paw! It was the one trick that no-one had to teach me – we all do it naturally!
Kira is part of the German Shepherd Display Group and they put on a wonderful show, including the famous fire hoops!
It was really hot so before we went home, my humans got me a very yummy cold thing, called “shaved ice” – mmm, I loved that!

What a great day indeed! Kira is such a brave dog, I know I can never jump through fire hoops! Honey you are so cute too, I would love to take pictures with you too, just like the others!
The shaved ice looks mouth-watering! I’m gonna badger my parents for some of that now!
Heehee, I wonder how that Heilan Coo copes with all the heat? The ones here have frost baubles dangling from their coats! (I will try to get a photo)
Lovely pictures, looks like you had a great day….gosh, your friend Kira is SO BRAVE, I hope she got some shaved ice too after that!
Honey, you look a bit like our friend Annie…she and her brother Walter are usually the main attraction so i’m sure they know how you feel, they’re so big!
Thanks for the link guys, i’m going to link to this post from my site if that’s ok? All our Scottish buddies will be pleased to see photos from Highland games where the sun actually shines, ours are famous for attracting every raincloud for miles!!

Harlow! thanks for dropping by my blog… Its so great that NZ has such a doggie event. Singapore ones are so much smaller…
and you have a HOT mom.
muahahaha…
Didn’t see any rotties around… hummm…
Hi Honey,
Looks like you had a great day. Some parts of Australia are brown and some parts are green. It’s great to hear you’re coming. Where are you going to go? I recommend Brisbane. The people and dogs are very friendly here.
Keep up the slobering!
Kisses,
Ruby Isabella.
Hi! Found you through our Dughallmor pals and love your blog. It’s good to see another Dane having fun working, just like our Seumelga friends here.
Enjoyed seeing your Highland Games too, a little bit of Scotland but far away and with much more heat!
My cousin and his family emigrated to NZ last year, they live in Tauranga and are loving it. I’m quite envious as it looks wonderful over there…..how can you think of leaving?
I was looking for my cousin in your video and photos……..you never know…..they might have been there! Didn’t spot them though.
We’ll be back to catch up on your news.
Hi Honey,
Your human may wanna try Pet Safari at VivoCity, a huge shopping mall near Harbourfront MRT station.
http://www.petloverscentre.com/location.asp
Pet Safari is under the same company as Pet Lovers Centre and they have outlets all over Singapore. Your humans can check out the website and see which is the most convenient location, if VivoCity is out of the way.
I hope they will be able to find yummy treats and special toys for you, Honey!
Awesome! What a fabulous day! Kira is superb! Thanks for sharing,Honey!
Looks like a pawsome event! And your friend Kira is really kool! Not sure if I can jump through a fire hoop. I think I might just catch on fire! Woah! Then I’m really AMBER! Harhar! Anyway, hope you had fun.

Hi, sweet sweet Honey!
Well, that was a funny and wonderful day, wasn’t it? It seems like a great encounter, I loved the photos!
It’s so great, everyone’s trying to take your picture, too! You’re like a star, Honey! And you are a very noble star, like I said once, you have such a noble posture. Congratulations to you and to your “pawsomly” great humans.
Love from distant Portugal,
Pipa
Hey Honey!
Ohh look at that Highland Cattle! We’ve never seen anything like that before! And Kira is the bravest dog we’ve ever seen!
Oh we love your new bean bag bed too! You are just so cute circling on the bean bag before resting on it! We do that too on mum’s bed! Hahaha!
Oh yeah, we would highly recommend your mum to drop by Vivo City too. That’s like a one-stop shopping paradise with lots of shopping for fashion, accessories and Pet Lovers Centre is just on the 3rd floor. They have a wide variety of toys and treats!
There’s another mega pet store (5000 sq ft) out of the city area call the U-Petgamart where things are much cheaper over there and the variety of toys/treats/doggy accessories are even wider! You can get a taxi there but the coming back is a bit tricky becos no taxi goes in there. Either you may have to book for a taxi or walk to the main road (which is kinda far) to flag a taxi. But U-petgamart has a resident Great Dane there who roams in the shop! He’s black and white and really friendly! He’s called ‘Ah Dai’ (meaning nerdy in chinese etc)! But he’s abit sensitive if u touch his paws! Hehehe!
Oh yeah U-Petgamart is located at:
11 Pasir Ris Farmway 1, Blk A Aqua Fauna Centre
operation hours:
weekdays 11am – 7pm
weekends/PH 10am – 8pm
Wags,
Cocoa and Barley
That looks like a great event. Did you see any Gordon Setters when you were at the games? We are originally from Scotland. Your friend Kira is very impressive.
Your friend,
Niamh
