We had our annual check-up at the vets last weekend! Usually we have it in January but because we will be leaving New Zealand soon, my humans decided to take me and Lemon earlier.
I really like my vets because I went to Puppy School there (to see pictures of me at Puppy School, please visit My Training page) -- and because they always give me treats and I can sit on the sofa! (I’m never allowed to do that at home…)
The vet clinic is in a beautiful old villa and they have a strange car machine which looks like a pink cat! I don’t know why humans do such strange things like that.
Here is a photo of me the first time I came to the vets, when I was 8 weeks old…haven’t I grown?
There are 2 vets: Russell and Marieke. Both are really nice, although I am a little scared of Russell -- ever since once he grew some funny hair on his face, I have found him a little scary -- even though now he has taken the hair off. But he is still really nice and always tries to be so friendly to me.
But I LOVE Marieke -- she always talks to me in a funny baby voice and calls me “Bubba” -- and she has really beautiful eyes. Once she even took me home to stay for the night, after I had the ‘special operation’ to stop me making baby doggies.
When we go in the clinic, the first thing they always do is weigh me…and guess what? I’ve lost weight! I am now 65kg.
My humans were really surprised because I haven’t been looking thin -- Marieke thinks I look really good and she says it is probably because I am on the Raw Diet, which has much better quality protein and other nutrition from the fresh raw, meaty bones and other natural things. When I was on kibble, I used to look really terrible and scrawny if my weight went down to 65kg -- but now, I look good! And less weight is better for me because us Great Danes tend to get arthritis and bone cancer and heart failure
so it is better for our health if we are lighter.
Then both me and Lemon had our check-ups and also our vaccinations, because otherwise we will not be allowed to travel. I also had to have my Kennel Cough vaccine because we will be staying in kennels for a while -- ugh, it goes in my nose and I hate that!
Lemon had to have a special check because she has a heart problem called a “heart murmur” -- but Marieke said she seemed very healthy and I can tell you, it definitely hasn’t slowed her down!
I am really sad to leave my lovely vets -- I have known them since I was a puppy -- I hope I will find as nice vets when I go to my new home overseas…
And here is a video of our vet visit!

Hi there Honey!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I would love to be friends! You are a beautiful girl, and you sure were an adorable puppy – and a big one! I am a year and a half old, and I weigh almost 6kg.
I am going to go look for the video you suggested I watch.
Love Clover xo
I laughed out loud at your trickle of drool! You are really a very good girl at the vet! I bet they don’t get such good patients all the time. You are sure gonna be missed!
