Well! My humans told me that this weekend is an especially long one because of something called “Easter” – and I’m really excited because they said that they are going away but they’re taking me too! It will be my first time ever going on holiday with my humans. We are going to stay on a farm and I will tell you all about it when I get back next week!
In the meantime, I’ve got some funny (& honest!) things to tell you:
I’m so sorry – I have been really bad because I’ve been honoured with lots of awards from my wonderful blog friends recently but it’s taken me so long to pick them up and display them!!
First, from Golden Sammie - the Fabulous Blog Award – thank you very much! I think your blog is fabulous too!
I also received 2 other awards but I’m so sorry – it was quite a long time ago and now, I’m not sure who gave them to me! I am so mortified!
I know one was from Clover the Pug – I think that was the Kreativ Blogger Award - thank you very much, Clover!
But I’m not sure who gave me the Proximidade Award…please tell me if it was you and I am so sorry I can’t remember! Thank you very much, whoever you were!
Finally, Chef the Boxer has given me the Honest Scrap Blog award and so I will have to tell you 10 honest things about myself.
OK, here goes:
1) I always do zoomies after a bath to celebrate my escape!

Yum!
2) I love to eat grass. Yup, they don’t call me a “small horse” for nothing!
This was something that my kitty sister, Lemon, and I used to do together a lot. After breakfast, we’d stroll off together to the corner of the garden with the best long grass and have a nibble side-by-side. It is very sad now that she is gone – I often go there myself and look around for her…
3) I’m scared of the vacuum cleaner and always bark at it and try to attack it.

4) I was expelled from training class. Yup – when I was about 8 months old, I was going through my “naughty time” and I was REALLY badly behaved.

Me at 8 months...
I would pull on my leash and if I saw another dog, I would get SUPER excited and lunge and bounce around on my leash. It was really dangerous because I was already really big and strong, and my humans were very upset with me. They didn’t dare take me anywhere!
The training class I was attending was not very good – it was run by amateur trainers at an obedience club and they were used to training Border Collies and other smaller dogs and didn’t know how to control me. One day, when a poodle growled at Hsin-Yi, I jumped on it and pined it down with my front paws! I didn’t bite it or hurt it but everyone was screaming and when Hsin-Yi tried to pull me off, I pulled her over and flipped her onto her back! People said I was “out of control” and we were expelled from class in disgrace…
Poor Hsin-Yi was crying and everyone thought I was a ‘monster puppy’.

being naughty on leash...
Then we found a really good trainer called Flip Calkoen (Flip’s Top Dog, Ellerslie Racecourse Stables, Auckland, 09-5221228) and he was wonderful - he showed my humans how to train me and how to control me in a nice but firm way, so that I respected them. I learnt to walk nicely on leash and to ignore other dogs sometimes and only play with them when I’m allowed to. Since then, Hsin-Yi has done lots more training with me and I am now really well-behaved, although I still need a bit of reminding from time to time!
5) I have a ridge on my neck. My mother had a ridge along her neck and I’m the only puppy in the litter to inherit this ridge.
People often ask if I’m a Ridgeback-cross when they see it – but actually, any dog can get a ridge : it comes from a thing called “genetic mutation” and that is how humans created breeds like the Rhodesian Ridgeback and the Thai Ridgeback…by choosing dogs naturally born with ridges and letting them have more puppies together!
6) I am too lazy to bury my bones – I just cover them with leaves & mud using my nose. Sometimes, my humans laugh at me because I seem to be trying to cover them with “invisible mud”!
7) Unlike most other dogs, I got my pet name first (“Honey”) and then my nice breeders chose my pedigree name based on that (“Yacanto A Taste of Honey” – it’s a Beatles song; all my litter was named after Beatle’s songs).
You see, my humans were on a ‘waiting list’ for me for a whole year and so they had already chosen a name for me and told my breeders, who made sure that they called me that name from the day I was born…so I already knew it really well by the time I was going to my new home!
8 ) I have a tantrum after dinner every night. My humans think it’s the “sugar rush” from the meal – I used to do zoomies after dinner but then my humans stopped me because it can cause ‘bloat’ which is a really scary sickness us Danes can get, where our stomachs swell up with gas and then might twist (“gastric torsion”) and if we don’t get help in 24hrs, we could die!
So my humans are always really careful and don’t let me exercise for 1 hour after my meals. Ooh – but it’s so hard not to do zoomies! So I started having these “tantrums” instead…well, my humans say they don’t mind coz it’s just a piece of cheap carpet and attacking it is safer than me zooming around!
9) I wear pyjamas in winter. People laugh because I’m a big dog but my fur is really short and I really feel the cold! (well, OK – us Danes are wimps…!
)
It’s really hard to find nice clothes for us big dogs…they never make the cute things in big sizes! And even when they do an XL – it is usually STILL too small for me ‘coz I’m a really big girl! So in the end, my humans contacted the companies that made clothes for smaller doggies and asked them to make up some special ones just for me!
So I now have several soft, fleecy pyjamas to wear in winter – I even have one that matches Hsin-Yi’s bathrobe!

10) I’ve been attacked by other dogs 3 times, twice needing stitches!
All 3 times I was just minding my own business or playing with nice dogs – and then a really grumpy dog rushed up to me and bit me! It’s so unfair ‘coz other dogs feel defensive and get aggressive with us – but us Great Danes can’t help being big!
When I meet nice, sociable, confident dogs then there is never a problem and we always have a nice play. But sadly, there are so many dogs whose humans did not socialise them or do much training with them…my humans get really mad because these irresponsible humans never apologise for their dogs’ bad behaviour. One of the owners even laughed after his dog attacked me and said proudly, “Look at that – going for the biggest dog in the park!”
Since that time, I am not as friendly to all dogs as I used to be and I’m a little nervous sometimes when I meet strange dogs. If I feel threatened, I can get grumpy, because I think I might get attacked again! But overall my humans say that it is a miracle I am still so good and friendly with other dogs, after what happened to me. I guess I’m lucky that my doggy parents gave me a really good temperament – and my humans did LOTS of socialisation and training with me, to make up for my bad experiences!
Now, the rules are – you must name and link to the doggie who gave you this award and then you must choose at least 7 blogs to pass this on to. So I am going to give it to the newest blog friends I have made recently! These are:
Cookie & Cinnamon the Beagles in NZ
Max & JD the Mini-Schnauzer Brothers
Scott, Sophie & Hazel the English Pointers
Huey & Higgins the Hawaiian Danes
Lenni, Vekku and Ressu, the Beagles in Finland
Lorenza the Dachshund in Mexico
Momoko the Golden Retriever in Japan
Velcro the Australian Cattle Dog
and (although she is one of my oldest blog friends) Luna the Great Dane in Australia, because she lost her beloved sister recently and is carrying on their blog in wonderful style!
Happy Easter everyone!

Hi Honey, Thanks for giving us the honest scrap award!! We wills do this today!!
Its nice to know that you over came your behaviour problems to become so well behaved!!
We love your pajamas, they are so cool!! Sophie is also scared of the hoover!!
It’s so sad that you have been attacked, us big dogs often get the worst reactions, but most of the time we are gentle giants, and our size just scares some dogs.
Have a great easter weekend, that will be so fun to go on holiday with your humans!! Make sure Hsin-Yi takes loads of photos for us to see!!
Slobbers, Scotty xxx
Great post Honey! Congratulations on all your awards.
I’m so glad that you found a great obedience teacher and now you and your people can go places and work together. Have a great time on your vacation at the farm. I hope you get to see cows.
Your friend,
Niamh
Honey Bunny! What a great post….your Honest Scrap is so wonderfully silly
Your after bath zoomies and after dinner tantrums are hilarious, hehe! And the invisible mud? Gabbi does that with her stuffies on the sofa (they’re her babies…yup, she’s nutso!)
)
We hope you have a fab holiday with your folks and we look forward to lots of photos when you get back
Happy Easter to you all!
Slobbers xx
Hi Honey!
I really loved learning more about you in the Honest Scrap. I think I might bark at you if we were both on the leash (I’m a little guy) but if we were both off leash at the dog run, we’d get along just fine. I’m weird that way. I once saw two huge dark gray Danes coming towards me on the street and launched into my “fierce dog” bark—Mommy said “What are you, nuts?”—and a man standing next to us cracked up!
You look so cute in your pink pajamas. I don’t wear jammies, but I have an extensive wardrobe of sweaters, hoodies and coats from my modeling days. (See what we have in common!)
Have a fun Easter vacation!
Your pal,
Petey
what a wondeful post! you look so cute with your pyjamas!
You look very nice in Pj’s!
My dog did the same thing after I gave her a bath:)
Allie
Haroo, Honey! Your videos are sooo funny! Waldo has after-bath zoomies, too. We usually have to send him outside because he is still a baby and a bit uncoordinated and he runs into stuff around the house (no carpet here). He also gets after-meal zoomies, too. But we don’t have a rug for him to attack, so he just attacks Gus.
Great list!
Congrats on the awards !!! & you have a matching pj with your mom ! cute !!!
Hi Honey,
What an enlightening entry of yous! Thank you also for the honest scrap award. Will do in the soonest.
in the mean time, happy easter to you and your family. Hope all your easter eggs are yummy carob !

Wow Honey! Thanks for the Honest Scrap award. I’ll have to get my brain to work coming up with ten honest things about myself. I enjoyed reading yours.
Have fun at the farm. I eagerly await pictures when you get back.
We loved this post! The videos were awesome. You sure have a lot of personality. I think we’d all get along great -- too bad you live on the other side of the world from us!
Have a fun ADVENTURE! Can’t wait to hear about it!

Lots of love and kisses!!!!
Hi Honey!
Congrats on your awards! I loved reading the honest things about you too. Sorry to hear about the doggies that hurt you and their mean owners…
I like your videos -- the zoomie one is a classic!
Love Clover xo
Wow you did get a lot of awards! Love learning more about you!! I never knew you had a ridge on your neck!!
Oh wow! What a great post this this Honey. Wow! You have a ridge on your back part of your neck! How unique is that? You sure you’re not part Rhodesian Ridgeback? Joking! I can’t believe you were expelled from school! Looking at your puppy picture, to me you look like an innocent well behaved puppy. I love your PJ by the way! I think that could fit me well. Too bad all the clothes sold here in Malaysia are also small. Mostly for small breeds. Sorry to know that you got attacked three times before. That must be so horrible. Some dogs just don’t know how to behave. Their owners are as badly behaved as their dogs too! Not good. I have been attacked once or twice before well, mostly humped by males & females so I’m not as friendly as I used to be when I was 6 months old. Hee!
Butt sniffs,
Solid Gold Dancer
Khongrats!
Woo shared lots of khool stuff about woo!
I like to bury my biskhuits/etc in the house like that as well!
Have a nice weekend and trip!

Khyra
Wow what wonderful things about you, the pink is surely your color. =) congrats on the awards. Happy Easter.
Hi Honey!
Tibby
It was so nice to learn all those things about you! I love your big dog pajamas! I can’t wait to hear all about your vacation!
OMD…that zommie video was the best Honey! I kind of do zoomies after a bath too but not excatly like you. I imediately run as fast as I can downstairs and then run around a couple of times.
Your humans did a great job with the video and music.
Also, I love to eat grass too and I have been attacked by two dogs so now I am also more cautious. I don’t know if I believe that you got kicked out of class as a pup???? Anyway, if they could only see you now….HA! The pink pajamas are great and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your ridge!
Of course!
Kisses,
Nala
Honey,
I get the zoomies after my bath too! I love to play with the towel. I also have to wear an embarrassing coat, because I get cold in the winter. It’s really hard to find coats big enough and “boy” enough. Everything is shimmery and has gem stones on it… eck.
Oh my feasting, gigando-dudette!
What is it about baths that put a snarzle in our bums? I get the zoomies too! And so does my dorky brother, but he usually winds up thrashing all over the sofa.
Did I mention that nerd-bomb bro also wears PJs to bed? He gets chilly too! But a beastly boy such as myself… I snoozel in the nude.
Honey, did I forget to tell you how darling you look in your pink PJ’s?
Slobbers,
Mango
Honey, once again… I always end up in a great mood each time I come to see you! I had loads of fun with this post, Honey! Loved your pj’s and the way you do your zoomies! Soooo funny!
Love
pipa
Great post, Honey!
Congrats on your awards!
Thanks for sharing your honest things. I loved to know more about you.
You look lovely in your pyjamas!
Sorry that you were attacked by other dogs tree times. How terrible!
Happy Easter!
Love,
Thor
Hi Honey,
Thanks for giving us an award. We feel very honored.
We didn’t know you went through such a hard time. At the same training club which expelled you, there was an incident that Cookie was taken outside the field by trainers and given special training, because he was uncontrollable. However, fotunately he was small enough to be pardoned for his misbehaviour. It was after he completed a series of sessions at the club that we turned to Flip for help.
Cookie has also been bitten by another dog once. Since then, he has become very cautious when he meets new dogs.
We are surprised to know that Honey and Cookie have similar experiences!
Hi!Honey.
Thank you so much for passde me awards.
I ‘m so glad that I know more about you.
Heart of goldie,momoKo
Wow, thanks for the award! I want to accept it, but I don’t understand the rules. Please explain it because I want to participate and honor my other favorite dog blogs.
I love your list of honest things. My Princeton does many of the same things, and it encourages me to know that the seemingly perfect Honey was once disobedient in training class like my Great Dane Princeton is. He also barks at the vacuum cleaner.!
Hi Honey,
We hope you have a great trip.
Congrats on your awards and thanks for sharing those things about you.
Holly & Zac…XX
Hi Honey,
The video of you zooming after your bath is so funny! How long did you zoom for? Do you get tired?
I am still pulling a lot whenever my humans take me for walkies. More so when I see other dogs then I will yank them along. One time I caused Missus to fall and she had 18 stitches on her knee. I can still remember she was so upset with me and she didn’t speak to me for 3 days.
So, my Missus wants to know how did Hsin Yi train you to be such a nice, wonderful girl? She hopes that Hsin Yi can share some advice or tips to stop my over enthusiatic behaviour, especially when I see another dog.
We love your pink pyjamas (although pink is not really my favourite colour because I’m a boy). So booti-ful!
Have a wonderful Easter!
Love,
Homer

Hi Honey
Congrats on all your awards. Thanks for sharing all that honest stuff and passing the award to us. We loved learning more about you.
We bury our bones just like you.
Love Ruby & Penny
I like that vacation spot because it had large of BIG THINGS such as yourself so you could feel right at home.
I am a bit curious how you fit your most big and beautiful self in that little car.
Slobbers,
Mango
Hi Honey,
I am so pleased that you like my tricks. I work very hard to learn them. The hoop is hard and sometimes I get stuck in it because I get too excited.
Momma thinks the weave poles might not survive my “training” cause I kind of push them around.
I weigh 230 pounds which google says is 104 kg. Lots of Mango!
Slobbers,
Mango
Dear Honey,
What a DREAM vacay with your mom -- (Happy Birthday mom!)- and what a GORGEOUS place for humans AND doggies! I didn’t know redwoods were transplanted there! We have tons of them here (in CA of course!). The springs and woods and sheep and cottages and farm and… oh my dog -- everything looks just pawsome! Glad you are having such a great easter vacay!
Hugs and Love xo
