My humans gave me a huge treat last weekend – they took me to a beach on the North Shore.
This is the part of Auckland that is on the other side of the Big Water and you have to go over a long bridge to get there.
There are many lovely beaches and bays all along the coast of the North Shore.
My humans decided to go to Rothesay Bay because it is next to Browns Bay and you can walk from one to the other one when it is “low tide” – this means when those scary wave things are far away from the beach.
It was a beautiful evening – in the summer, dogs are only allowed on the beach after 6:30pm but that’s okay because during the summer, it is still light until really late…in fact, my humans said that late afternoon sun is perfect for photos!
I couldn’t wait to get out of the car to run on the beach!
My human, Hsin-Yi, played one of my favourite games with me – she would tell me to wait while she walked off a bit far away and then she would shout “COME!” and start running as fast as she could and I would have to GALLOP to try and catch her! What fun! I’m usually quite a slow, placid hound (ahem!) but when I play this game, I can really run – like a greyhound!
Then we started walking across the rock pools to get to Browns Bay…
There were so many interesting nooks and crannies to explore…

…and lots of seaweed everywhere…everything smelled very fishy!
When we finally got to Browns Bay, there were lots of people there with their dogs. Everyone was enjoying the lovely evening. The wind was blowing very strongly, though – my ears were flying in every direction! Look at them in this photo with Hsin-Yi – Ha! Ha!
I found a stick washed up on the sand and had a good time attacking it!
Then Hsin-Yi asked me to pose with some strange, round rocks…
I’m a pretty good poser, because Hsin-Yi LOVES taking photos all the time – so ever since I was a puppy, I’ve had lots of practice in standing and sitting in strange places and waiting until that Big Flashy Thing goes off in my face!
Just time for a photo with my other human, Paul…
…and then it was time to start walking back across the rock pools. We had to get back before the waves started coming up the beach again!
Hsin-Yi loved all the strange and beautiful shapes in the rock pools – she said it was amazing that it was all natural and done by the water, because some of the rocks looked like they had been carved by an artist!
The sun was just setting as we got back to Rothesay Bay…time for one last photo before we got in the car…
What a wonderful weekend!

What a beautiful place! And so interesting to explore! You are one lucky puppy Honey that your humans take you fun places like that. Looks like you had an absolute ball and I LOVE your ‘majestic dog statue’ pose, you have it perfected.
Hi Honey!
wow! I love your photos. It looks like you had a great time with your humans. I think the best bit must have been destroying that stick. My human thinks the scenery and your good behaviour would have been the best bit; she doesn’t get it sometimes.
I don’t like waves either – I can’t believe some dogs go and play in the waves they are just crazy.
love from
Mr Darcy
What a super weekend Honey! Those rocks look very fascinating…I hope they weren’t too slippery.
I loved seeing you run….my favorite place to ruin is on the beach and my Mom and Dad play that same game with me but they call me back and forth in between them.
I think we would have great fun ruuning together on the beach.
Kisses,
Nala

What great photos of you, Honeygirl! You really are a natural supermodel. That beach looks like great fun. I was happy to see you had your chain on because at first glance, I was afraid you’d stumbled onto a nude beach. Did you get to roll around in something stinky for the ride home?
Your pal,
Petey
What a wonderful weekend Honey! I wish we had a beach near us. Mom grew up near the beach in Corpus Christi, Tx and she misses it. Mabye she will take us there one day.
You are beautiful in all your pictures, as ususal!
Wow Honey! What a fun place to go play! I’ve never seen a beach before, we live too far inland. Mommy gets to go see one in May though. Unfortunately she said I can’t come, something about moon and Honey . . . or was it Honey and moon? I’m not sure. I’m just bummed. I love the pictures of you running and your windy ears.
Wow, what great photos! And, thanks for putting in the map. We’re not familiar with New Zealand, so it was great to see where Auckland was located. We live in the middle of the states so I’ve never seen an ocean! You lucky dog

OMG! It looks like you had an amazing time! I’ve only been to the beach once when I was a pup. Maybe I’ll see if I can convince the humans to go again this summer!

The NorthShore beaches are great! It’s sad they they have been making doggies poorly recently with the toxic purple ink squirting slugs
You have done a great job with your Great Dane, IM very impressed with all your pictures and writings. You tell a great story with heart and feelings. I have three fawn Great Danes (Jake who is my heart is three years old) (Maggie and luke are my other Fawn Great Danes that needed a home several years ago. Didnt think I would ever have three Great Danes.
