My new Canine Freestyle dance routine…

OK, everyone – here is a sneak preview of my new  dance routine! :)

We have our 1st performance coming up this Saturday (!) so I have been practising REALLY hard with my human, Hsin-Yi, in the last couple of weeks – trying to learn all the different moves and how to put them together. Then the hardest part is doing it in time to the music!

Because I have a really short attention span and my brain gets tired really easily, I can only do very short training sessions. So Hsin-Yi has been doing 10 minutes in the morning before my breakfast and then 10 minutes in the afternoon before my walk, every day.

Hsin-Yi says there are some days where I’m really good – and others when I act like there is just a big echoing space between my ears! :) (HELLO…? Hello…? hello…?)

We only started learning this new routine since Hsin-Yi came back from overseas and so we’ve only had about 4 weeks to practise for our performance. (GULP!) Some days, Hsin-Yi says she wishes that she’d just decided to do our old routine but we were getting so bored of doing that one so she thought it was nice to have a new challenge…I think she is a bit crazy – why does she always have to make life difficult? We could have just done our old routine and not had to practise like crazy to learn this new one!

Anyway, it’s too late to change now! :)

So here’s a video showing what I’ve learnt so far…

And if you’re interested, here is a video of my old routine:

(this was the last time I performed it…as you can see, I was getting a bit too keen to get to my favourite part: pulling the sash off! :) )

I sure hope I do OK on Saturday!  We will be performing at the ‘Devonport Dog Parade’ which is a big public event and everyone can bring their dogs and there will be competitions and fun activities and also demos by dog experts. We are the last show on at 2pm – there will be 4 routines in all! The routine before me is a Duo Routine performed by my friends, Kira the German Shepherd and Finnigan the Sheltie (both of them were at the 2nd Rachael Hale photoshoot) – they were in the class that Hsin-Yi taught last year and this will be their 1st public performance!

Hsin-Yi is hoping that it won’t be too hot on Saturday as I overheat really easily and if I get hot and tired, I won’t feel like dancing. Also she is hoping I won’t get distracted by the crowds or just “zone out” like I do sometimes…you know, with us dogs – there are no guarantees! :P  We once saw the NZ Freestyle Champion (a collie) jump out of the ring and run off when the music started! His poor owner was so embarrassed! And he was a champion collie! So there is no hope for us beginning amateurs – ha! ha! ha!

Oh well, we can only do our best! :)

I love the freestyle performance. I really like it when you pullthe scarf that wraps around your mom waist, nice work! Both your Mom and you make a perfect pair on performing a breathtaking dance. You make my mom wants to bring you to the State now!
And please come to my blog to pick up your 2 Rose and Friendship Awards and to see me proposing to my dream girl.

  24. Ana says:

Hi Honey! You are my favourite dancer! I wish I knew how to dance like you do!

  25. Sasha says:

BARK! Honey dog, we just saw your dancing over on Gus and Waldo’s blog. Mommy always has water come from her eyes when she see’s you dance. She wishes we could dance like you too. You are so good for your mommy. My mommy asked if your mommy can send the new dancing link to her, because she cant see them on your blog. We want to see your new Salsa practice. BARK! Sasha the Princess (not dancer!)

  26. Jake and Just Harry says:

    Hello Honey,

One of our pals suggested we come visit because Just Harry is kind of crazy about Great Dane ladies and they thought you and he should meet.

We watched your video and are awed at how talented you are. We loved the part where you and your mom walk forward and your paws echo her steps. Very very cool!!!

Once you’ve had a chance to recover from all that excitement, come visit and get to know us. Perhaps you might be interested in a date with a wire fox terrier (JH) — although you must have a very full calendar.

    Wirey sniffs and woofs!!!

    Jake and Just Harry

  27. KC says:

Wow, you guys look great! I love the part where Honey goes under your legs!

I’m sure my Dane Princeton would like that yummy trotter… but he gets a stomach ache from the little bone fragments he swallows.

What a nice bed Honey has! And it doesn’t look like Honey has chewed it at all! Princeton just chewed up his new “tear resistant” bed, and I don’t know what to do next for his bedding. You can see a photo of the ripped bed on my latest post.

Thanks for your ongoing advice. After watching your video, I feel that it’s an honor to know someone like you, who is so talented with dogs.

  28. momoKo says:

    Hi!Honey.
I like to eat the boiled foot of the pig and the fresh rib of the horse.

    Heart of goldie,momoKo

  29. Mango says:

    I LOVED IT!!!
I even went to YouTube and watched your other routine. I know how hard it is for full sized doggies to do freestyle. Some would say we do it in slow motion, but that’s just because we have to think more to move our large selves around.

I saw when you noticed something on the ground. Whoops. Those leg kicks look really hard. I don’t know if I can learn that. And backing up! WOW!

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  30. pointerpandemonium says:

Honey your old routine was super cool!! But then so is the new routine!! You be very clever to learns all these things!! xx
