My 'real' day and Autumn walking…

Well, just in case you think that my life is all glamorous photoshoots and beautiful beaches, I thought I’d better show you what I REALLY get up to in most of my days…

…for about 18 hours a day (yup, my humans counted!)

I usually get up around 8am (am not a morning dog), have my breakfast and then go back to bed (all that chewing is really exhausting!). Then I doze around the house or in sunny patches till around 4pm, when I wake up, stretch and go find my human, Hsin-Yi. She’s usually at the computer doing her Work thing, which gives her money paper so she can feed a scary monster called ‘Mortgage’ and so we can live in our nice house.

I’ll laze around there and then after a bit, she will get up and take me for my daily walk. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, Paul finishes his Work early too and he will come on my walk too. Yay! I love it when my whole pack is together.

Walking with Paul in Auckland Domain

My humans usually try to take me to different walks throughout the week, so that I don’t get bored…but one of the places they take me to a lot is the Auckland Domain because this is near the place that Paul does his Work thing and so we can meet him there.

Because we are on the bottom of the world, our seasons are opposite to the places on the top of the world – and so we’re going into Autumn now. All the leaves on the trees are changing colours and falling down. My humans love this time of year and all the beautiful colours.

Walking through the Domain is one of the nicest ways to enjoy Autumn…

Mmm-mmm

On my walk today, I found a pine cone! I was really excited and after I batted it around with my paws for a bit, I settled down to give it a really good chew…

Afterwards, we climbed up the hill where the Auckland Memorial Museum is to look at the view.

There is a strange, big, black thing up there which Hsin-Yi says is a “sculpture” - this is something humans make. It doesn’t do anything and you can’t eat it – it’s just for looking at (aren’t humans strange?)

honeysculptureAnyway, I used to be really scared of it – but since my humans have taken me past it a lot and always ignored me when I acted frightened, I figured it wasn’t so scary after all…

In fact, when I act calm and ignore it, they praise me lots and give me treats so I decided that the big, scary black thing is not so bad after all.

Hsin-Yi says it is actually supposed to look like a bird…Really! How can a big, black, flat, metal thing look like a bird??

Anyway, here is the view from the top of the hill – you can see the famous tall skinny building called the Sky Tower, which many humans like to climb up and take pictures with their camera machines. Some humans even like to jump off it! (www.skyjump.co.nz)

While we were on the hill, we met a cute little Westie pup called Bella who ran up to me and tried to sniff my bum but couldn’t quite reach…

honeywestiepup

honeyduckpondThen we walked down to the duck pond. I LOVE going to the duck pond because the ducks leave lots of poo in the grass all around it…YUM-YUM!!

My humans hate it when I eat the duck poo so I have to eat it sneakily when they’re not looking, otherwise they get grumpy and shout at me.

I was just having a good munch when these strange humans ran up to me and started hugging me!

They asked Hsin-Yi if they could take photos with me – lots of humans are always doing that, especially those who come off big, long car machines called ‘tour coaches’.

Hsin-Yi says that if she charged people money to take photos with me, we would be very rich! :)

Hmmm...let me eat my duck poo in peace...

Hmmm...let me eat my duck poo in peace...

honeyfattreeThere was a strange-looking tree by the duck pond.

Hsin-Yi thought it looked like a fat little monster – and she wanted me to pose for a photo with it.

As you can see, I was not so keen…

Well, we did a big loop of the Domain, which takes about 1/2hr to 40mins and then we got home just in time for dinner.  My humans usually feed me around 6-7pm and then I put myself to bed. They wake me up to take me out for a last toilet break at around 10-11pm but after that I can snooze undisturbed till morning – yay!

Hsin-Yi says she can’t believe how a dog can sleep as much as I do…well, life is awfully exhausting when you’re lazing around, doing nothing! :)

Do you sleep as much as I do?

Wow Honey….we are more alike than I thought! :) I spend my days very much like yours and I too am not a morning person and I go back to bed after breakfast for a bit. :)

That is very funny about that little pup trying to sniff you but not being able to reach. That happened with me once too and this little guy kept jumping up trying to sniff…it was very funny.
I also like duck/goose poo but I too have to go about getting it very sneakily. ;)

Enjoy those fall leaves…my Mom loves that time of year too. :)

    Kisses,
    Nala

Honey, you are one sleepy dog! I love the photo where your paws are on a soft toy. Is it a cuddle toy?
The Domain looks beautiful. I haven't been there for a while, so you have reminded me to take the small humans so we can see the Autumn leaves.
Eww, I don't blame your humans from being cross when you eat duck poo! I once had a dog who liked eating cat poo, and then she would come up and try to lick me on the face! Gross.
She loved it though. Aren't dogs funny?

  3. Well, you might not think that your life looks glamorous, but your walk places certainly are! We don't have too many things that are so cool here in Ohio.

We do the naps the same, though. That transcends cultures.

    Hi Honey & Co.!

we are 2 years old! Saige is 176 pounds and a little over 36 inches at the withers, which is RIDICULOUS for a female, in fact we can not find historical records of a female IW being quite so big—and Guinness is about an inch shorter and 155 pounds--probably average for a male.

we just love your blog, where you live, what you do--so nice to talk to other giant breed owners! i am happy to have found your blog! Honey is a phenominal dog--so obedient unlike my two--they are extremely loyal, but not so obedient--hahahah! cheers--janice

  6. Oooh, great moves there Honey….we especially like the one where you're preventing your stuffie from escaping….BOL! So, do you get up and stretch….plump up your bed….turn around eleventy-seven times and the plop back down again? We do….if we can muster up the energy….life is tough when you don't have servants to plump your pillows up for you, eh?!
That park looks so lush and green…and we love duck poo too and were pondering whether NZ duck poo tastes the same as Scottish duck poo…..hmmmm….
    Slobbers xx

  7. gorgeous sweet doggie! thanks!

  15. JD and Max says:

Hi Honey -- we're so glad you posted this as it's something we've been thinking about ourselves….

We're very much morning dogs -- we're everso good and wait until the incredibly late hour of 6.00 am every day for our humans to get u,p although if we had our way we'd prefer to get up at 5.00 am so we think we're quite good to wait for SOOO long. We have to have a long morning walk after our breakfast as we have a LOT of energy to use up, so now that we can't go down to the beach for the next 5 months we get taken to the park for at least an hours romp at around 6.30 or 7.00. As you've seen from our previous puppy-cam post we sleep a lot during the day -- we get left around 8.30 am and we've trained our female human to come back for an hour around noon -- we're usually waiting by the gate for her for at least an hour beforehand! She takes us for a short walk so we can check that our neighbourhood is still safe then we snooze the afternoon away. Our male human gets back home at around 5.00 pm and then we get our dinner at about 6.00 when our female human is back. She takes us on seperate walks in the evening -- she's trying to make sure we don't become too dependant on each other -- so we get a 40 minute training walk each. We play for the rest of the evening and get put to bed at about 10.30 -- we never willingly put ourselvese to bed. Our female human has said a few times that she wishes we would sleep in a bit longer in the mornings and hopes that we will a bit more when we're no longer puppies -- ha, that's what she thinks!!

BTW we're glad you've met the wonderful 'splorin' wolfies, we were going to suggest you do as we think that Saige is actually bigger than you are! Aren't they gorgeous?

Woo -- this is a long comment, sorry, we got carried away! Tail wags -- JD and Max.

  16. I think our mom and dad wished we slept that much! But we are just puppies. Here is a bit on our routine. We usually start to stir around 5am but our mom and dad ignore us until about 6:30. Then one of them takes us out and feeds us and on weekends they go back to bed but on the weekdays they stay up and go to work. We are in crates during the workdays but always have something fun to play with in there. Mom and dad come home for lunch midday and we get to play for about an hour. Then they leave until about 5pm. We play all evening and eat a late dinner -- about 9pm. When we eat earlier our tummies get empty in the morning and we get sick. So fun to know how your day goes!!!

  17. Mango says:

Sure, a big gal like you needs lots of meditation time. I understand.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  18. JD and Max says:

Hi -- us again! Thanks for dropping by our blog! Yup, we're lucky that our humans give us so much time -- our female human is very sporty, she does things like run half and full marathons and goes on long bike rides so she wanted a breed of dog that would have a lot of energy to keep up with her, she researched it a lot before she got us and we're so glad she decided upon a schnauzer. It's nice to have 3 romps a day and she loves having the company! Now that we're nearly 7 months old she's going to start taking us on short training runs with her, but only very short ones to see how we get on. Mind you, I suppose it would be nice of us to let her have a BIT of a lie in on the weekend ocassionally, we must work on that…..sigh!

It's been very interesting and informative reading the responses to this subject Honey -- what a great post!

Yup -- we're pepper and salt schnauzers which means we will turn silver as we get older. Ombre is VERY handsome -- our female human was keen for us to get a full schnauzer look, but it was our male human who took us to the groomers and he likes us looking fluffy and puppy-like so didn't opt for the 'full schnauzer' cut just yet, he he he!

Tail wags -- JD and Max.

  19. Honey, I am glad to see you have plenty of time for lots of rest and relaxation!

  20. Ana says:

Hi Honey! You sure are a sleepy girl like Indie!

  21. phoerauf says:

Looks like a lovely place to walk!

  22. Teddy says:

Ooh, my mom wishes I would learn to sleep in like you do so she could get her rest. You look so cute trying to curl up on your pillow.

Wow, your autumn pictures are gorgeous, especially that last picture of the red tree. You certainly live in a beautiful place.

    Teddy

  23. Konrad says:

    Hi Honey…

I'm Konrad and I love sleeping too! Where did you get that big soft bed? I think my owner should get one for me!

  25. Cookie: I sleep a lot too. I especially love having a nap at a sunny, warm spot. But, my humans often tell me to get inside after a short nap in summer. It seems they don't know how comfortable it is!

Cinnamon: I love sleeping, cuddling with Cookie. It's so warm and nice.

Cookie: My humans took me to Auckland Domain a couple of times when I was a puppy, but I haven't been there since we moved to our current house when I was a year old. So, I don't remember what the place was like. It seems like a nice place to explore. I love exploring!! Having a walk in the neibourhood is so boring, as there isn't much to explore.

Cinnamon: I have never been to the Domain. I will have to ask our humans to take us there sometime!

  26. KC says:

I must admit that sometimes I look forward to the day when Princeton's puppy energy wanes and he spends more time resting. Meanwhile, I try to enjoy the wild ride while it lasts.

I love your blog so I gave it the "Your blog is Fabulous Award" today. Please visit the My Great Dane Princeton Blog to pick up your award and read some nice comments that I wrote about you.

I know that you've already gotten this award from somebody else — plus many others. But you and your blog are so great that I had to honor you, too.

I'm behind on collecting and processing my awards. I appreciate the Honest Scrap Award that you gave me, and will be posting it soon with my 10 Honest Things.

  27. Mason Dixie says:

All those places look very comfy for naps, no wonder you do it for so long =) thanks for sharing your beautiful fall walk. Mom loves fall, favorite time of year

  28. Tucker says:

    Honey,
I love to sleep! It's one of my three favorite things : treats, tugging, and sleeping. My humans video taped me in my crate when they leave and they saw that it took me 3 1/2 minutes to start snoring , ha ha.

It is the middle of spring here, but don't worry there are still tons of pinecones left over from last year to find! I like to grab the really bigs ones and take off with them. Momma makes me drop them before I can go inside the house. I don't know why humans don't think sticks, mud, pinecones, etc can be brought in the house. Humans are weird.

  29. Chow Chow says:

Ang my parents thought I was the only one. I sleep a lot throughout the day too. Beautiful dogs like us need our beauty sleep, don't we?!

  30. Chef says:

Hi Honey! You are a Sleeping Beauty~!! I guess a glamourous girl like you needs lots of naps. But l8 hours?? Wow. No wonder you're so gorgeous! Thank you for taking us along on your walk. The Domain looks like a great place to explore. Is it really autumn there? Summer is coming here in Canada and we're so happy about that. We don't like the cold and snow.

Thanks for the award you gave me a while ago. Sorry I didn't post it yet but Mama has been very busy and she's way behind with all kinds of stuff. I'm very honoured!

    Bye for now, Honeygirl.

  31. janice says:

wow--you are going into autumn?????? that IS indeed very strange!!! we did not know that!!very pretty though! thank you for the comment on our bloggy--we are luckily not misbehaving doggies--just not SHARP on commands--we kinda have a "what's in it for me " attitude--but we are very good walkers and would never let our mom out of our sight, but we are not always quick on the "come" command--but not bad either--it is a wolfhound thing--hehehe!
thank you for coresponding with us--it is always so good to talk with other big dog owners! yes--we agree Honey is a huge GD and a female at that!! We are always surprised when we see GD how small they are compared to us, but Honey is definately more like what we expected--what a glorious girl!!

  32. Ruby & Penny says:

    Hi Honey
You can always find us snoozing.
We love going on walks with you, all your scenery is so beautiful.

Hey Honey!! Your day is very similar to ours!! Except we like to mix it up a bit with some play fighting and some sofa chewing! BOL ;)
We also much prefer walking with both mum and dad cos that means we all get to go out together!!
Thanks for sharing your daily life with us! xxxxx

  37. Oh honey, you really do sleep a lot! I think my mom would love if I slept more (especially in the mornings) but hey, life is too busy and I don't want to miss a thing! I sleep when my mom works, which is 8h+ (and of course I keep that habit throughout the weekends too) but I superactive in the mornings as well as throughout the night. I even started letting myself out in the garden during night, so I can be with the other dogs are guard really well. Should anything happen during my sleeping hours, I'm awake just like that, already ready to take care of my human, and make sure she doesn't do anything without me! :-D Good thing you're sleeping for me too, Honey. Keep up the hard work!

    Sheba
