Busy weekend…and ‘Run 4 Mums’

(sorry – this should have been posted earlier this week but was delayed because of the horrible incident – please see the last post for the reason!)

Well! I had a very busy weekend -

It started with me helping the humans with all the leaves in our garden which have fallen down from our tree. Because it is Autumn now, the leaves are falling every day and even though my humans keep sweeping constantly, they just can’t keep up!

First I helped Hsin-Yi sweep up all the leaves into a big pile…

…as you can see, I was working really hard.

I think you missed a leaf over there, Hsin-Yi...

Then I helped Paul put them all into a big bin with wheels, which we then put outside our house and a big truck machine from Sunshine Garden Bags comes to empty it so we can put more leaves inside!

Oh no! They just keep coming...

Of course, after all that hard work, I needed a little snooze…

Then my humans took me to Shore Rd Reserve, which is an off-leash park, and threw my tennis ball for me to fetch – YAY! This is my favouritest game in the world!

Honey-chase-ball-3Hsin-Yi says I am “ball-obsessed” which I think means that I just cannot think about anything else when I see a tennis ball.

I don’t care if there are other dogs there, yummy food, loud noises, other people, children…all I care about is the ball – and when are they going to throw it for me?!?!

While we were at Shore Rd Reserve, we met Hugo – one of my old friends from training class at the All Breeds Obedience Club. He is a 3yr-old Greyhound-Bullmastiff cross and he is VERY fast!

Honey-chase-Hugo

Me and Hugo last summer...

Me and Hugo when he was younger...

Hugo was very naughty in class and always used to run away so that his poor human would have to spend most of the class chasing him…he was a bit better behaved this time but still had a lot of his naughty habits – like jumping up to playbite humans in the face. This is a very rude thing for dogs to do – some humans can get really frightened and even those who aren’t, might get hurt ‘coz us dogs have sharp teeth even if we don’t mean to use them.

Anyway, Hsin-Yi felt a bit grumpy because he jumped up at her and stuck his nose into the camera machine’s face instead!! So the round glass face of the camera machine got all dirty and she was really worried that it was scratched…all the pictures she was taking afterwards were blurry in the middle. But thankfully, when we got home, she cleaned it carefully and it was OK again. Naughty Hugo!

When we got home from the park, Paul gave me a nice grooming session.

P-groom-Honey2Hsin-Yi hates doing grooming (this is one reason why she got a short-haired dog like me!) and always forgets to groom me…I’m lucky if I get groomed twice a month, even though I am often bathed every week! :)

She is lucky though because I don’t need much grooming usually – mud will just fall off me when it dries and us Danes have a short single coat, so there are no matts or tangles! We are really easy “wash-and-wear” dogs! But once a year, I usually go through a big moult and lose a lot of hair from my coat. The dead hair that is coming out is very light-colured and makes my coat look really patchy…like I have some kind of disease! :) So at this time of year, Hsin-Yi can’t be so lazy and she has to groom me more often.

My humans use a Zoom Groom which has little rubber pins that pull out the dead hair. It also feels like a massage – really nice!

On Sunday, we had to get up really early because Paul was going to do a big walk in Cornwall Park called “Run 4 Mums“. This is partly to celebrate Mother’s Day and also to help collect money paper for The Nurture Foundation for Reproductive Research which is a charity that helps humans who cannot have babies or whose babies die before they are born.

Paul is a Human Vet who helps bring babies into the world and so he and other Human Vets who work with him were doing this to support the charity. Some people did the Run but Paul could only do the Walk because of his back sickness (after his operation last year, the Back Human Vet said that he is not allowed to run anymore). But that was OK because there were lots of other people doing the Walk too!

Hi Paul!

Hi Paul!

While we were waiting for him, lots of people and children came up to pat me and ask questions about me as usual…

Some of the parents were very silly and just let their children run up to me without asking Hsin-Yi first or letting me smell their hand first. I was OK because I am very well socialised with children but some dogs might get frightened if a human pup just ran up to them and tried to hug them – and then they might snap and wh0 can blame them!

Really – humans should teach their pups better manners so that accidents don’t happen…otherwise, us dogs always get blamed when it’s not our fault at all! :( Anyway, the human pups were all very sweet – even the one who kept hugging me and wouldn’t let go (sorry, Hsin-Yi was too busy supervising us to make sure we wouldn’t hurt each other so she didn’t get any photos!)

Me and the 'pregnancy belly'

We were really pleased to see Paul when he finished. We also met some of his Human Vet friends – one of them was wearing a special “pregnancy belly” – this is a big heavy coat which helps people understand what it feels like to be a pregnant woman and how difficult it is to move everywhere! :)

It was very good of them to wear that and do the walk/run!

The best part of the day was when Paul went to get a hot dog for me…I wolfed it down so fast, Hsin-Yi didn’t even get a chance to get a picture of it!

Yum! Hot dog!

Yum! Hot dog!

Whew! I’m exhausted from my busy weekend…I need to get back to the working week so I can get some rest!! :)

Did you have as busy a weekend as me?

  • WOW!

Woo did one pawtastikh job with the work deTAIL!

    I’m furry impressed!

As fur the walk, that was furry khool! Your mom is like my mom with letting little ones khome up to me – we try to get them to ask – or we ask them if they want to pet me when they are making THOSE eyes at me! Plus, we have them do the open hand thing too!

It is much better fur your dad to walk anyway! We’ve yet to see any runners look HAPPY whilst doing it but if woo look at all the walkers, they are happy!

Tank woo fur sharing this post!

  • Oh Honey!
I use a zoom groom too! I think I shed more than you because once a week I get furminated, but I LOVE to see the zoom groom come out because it is like a massage.

I am one of those doggies who gets nervous when the human pups run up to me so I am not allowed to go places where they are. This makes momma sad because she says Raja was so sick when I was going through my “fear” period that she did not properly spend time to socialize me.

My dumb brother is always trying to jump up and bite people in the face. When he tries that on Momma she just turns her back and he is learning a special command called “simmer” that means STOP ACTING LIKE A MANIAC! When our guests use it he stops jumping on them.

I LOVE reading about your adventures and seeing you help with the yard work.

  • I just re-read that. What I meant is Raja was very sick when I was a teenager and Momma spent lots of time taking her to the V-E-T and trying to plan things that she enjoyed so she didn’t always take me places to meet people when she should have. Whatever. I am happy on my estate.

  • BOL….HOney, that picture of you and Paul looking up into the tree is too funny and cute. :) What a neat run/walk that Paul did….a great cause! I am also glad to hear an update on the situation from the park and hope you never see this man again. :( Karma was a perfect name for the seagull….Hsin-Yi was very brave to touch it….did it not peck at her?

    Nala

  • We read your last few posts. What a frightening situation. We’re hope you never see that guy again!

And it is great you had such a busy and fun weekend so you could forget about the jerk for a little while.

  • That sounds like a GREAT weekend! Even though I know that you live in a different hemisphere it’s so funny to hear that you guys are getting into fall while we’re gearing up for summer. Great pics too!

  • Hi Honey – great picutres! What a busy weekend you had – you’re a great supervisor in the garden, humans just don’t realise how tiring that sort of job is do they?!

We have the same problem with human pups running up to us. It’s because we’re so cute and fluffy they want to pet us – and their owners often let them do it without a backward glance, they think because we’re fairly small we couldn’t possibly be a problem – it’s very rude and ignorant really (not to mention potentially dangerous – and as you’ve said, it’ll be the doggie that gets the blame if anything were to happen, it’s really unfair.) It scares us a little when they do that (we are only 7 months old after all!) and sometimes Max will bark (who can blame him?!) but our human thinks we do very well in these situations as we don’t jump or bite (or even mouth) these rude human pups. We like it when we get supervised play with the small humans, then it’s fun as they’ve introduced themselves first and we’re happy and confident because we know them and we then get to play great games together!

  • Hi Honey,

We have lots of fallen leaves in our garden too, so our humans have to sweep them almost every day. Fallen leaves really are a trouble maker. They block spouting. So, our humans also have to keep an eye on the the spouting.

We didn’t know about ‘Run 4 Mums’. It sounds like a great event. Our mum may want to take part in it next year.

  • Good job on the snoopervising there. I’ll bet you brighten up the days of all those people who come see you. I be moutling at the moment too. I has to have all my fur turned backwards to get my undercoat brushed, it a pain!

  • BOL, you helped Hsin Yi with the pile of leaves by supervising huh ? BOL ! love all the pictures ! Looks like you guys have lots of fun ! & Looks like Hugo is a good playmate (:

    Lots of drools,
    Four Musketeers

  • WOW!!!! that was a lot to take in Honey! we laughed at how very hard you worked with the yard work. sometimes supervising is the hardest job! NO!!! we did not have such a busy weekend like you! my goodness you must be very tired! we think you handled yourself perfectly around all those kids who run up with out asking first. lucky thing you are good natured. til next time sweet honey!

  • What a fun weekend! I spent my weekend at my GrandMommy’s house because my Mom was still gone on her moon trip. Next time you get a hot dog wanna toss one my way? Drool . . .

  • WOW~!!!! You did have a really busy weekend! But it looks like you had a GREAT time!!!!

  • Great post, you had a lot to do Honey!
In our city we don’t have any dog parks so we can’t run free like you can (we are so jealous)!
    Kisses
    Rufus and Indie

  • Wow that is a lot of work. It’s spring here, so our leaves have just come back & our flowers are blooming.

It’s cook that you had such great adventures this weekend.

I don’t get groomed enough either. Being a schnauzer I have hair like people instead of fur like most dogs. This means I’m hypoallergenic, and I don’t shed.

It’s very silly for those humans to let their pups run right up to you. You’re very good to be so gentle to them.

  • Honey,

alls i kan say is i lyke yur wurk ethic….its the sames as myne. :)

  • You’re such a big help, Honey! Hehehe….I guess I’m no different from you when it comes to working ;-)

Sounds like you had a busy weekend alright! But a really fun one!

  • Hello Honey!

You are so well behaved and we are so envious you have a big garden all to yourself!! And we can surely see how hard you were working!! haha

    Love,
    Camry, Chevro and Cayenne

  • Hi Honey…I see you like to wear bandanas! You should send a photo to Norwood & join the Bandana Bonanza!

You need to email the photo to:

  • Wow, busy indeed! Honey is beautiful and I am surprised people will run up to big dogs they don’t know. Most people are afraid of Moose which is highly un-deserved but just as well I suppose. People scoop up little dogs when they see him, kinda funny b/c he really loves little dogs and it only makes him more interested! I noticed that Honey has a dane bump on her head… My moose has one and it makes me think he has a tiny bit of dane in him, see here: http://dewdana.blogspot.com/2009/02/whos-your-daddy-is-moose-labra-dane.html

    Moose + Dana
p.s. Leaves and hair … both just keep coming!

  • wow that was a load of a weekend. my weekend not as active as your for sure. =) Great job with the yard work, are you for hire?

  • Wow
What a big big day you have!!!
How you do it? So thats why the big naps :)
    hehehe

hugs and kisses from kikos world

  • Wat a grreat cause!

    Wuv,
    Gus and Waldo

  • Wow Honey you and me are alike in a lot of ways. We both have short short furs and a Zoom Groom brush, and we both soopervise our Mummys and Daddys when they is doing werk in the yard! And we are both ball obsessed!!!

But I let Star go on all the walks and to all them events. I does not like to do that. She sez it is lots of fun tho. I thinks it would only be fun if the peeple there throwed the ball fer me all the time.

    Yer pal Dozer

PS I likes that bed you have in the back yard!! Looks comfy.

  • What a busy weekend you had. I loved the picture of the human vet with the pregnancy belly – I wonder if I can get my husband one of those? And I loved all the photos of you supervising the garden cleaning. Lucky they have you, or I’m sure those humans would never get any of those pesky jobs done!
