Let me tell you that such advanced drooling skills only come with plenty of practice, although I have to admit that some of us do have a greater competitive advantage in the slobber stakes (hint: large, floppy jowls usually put you in the top 10% of the class)…
Anyway, so I have decided to host my very first competition and – as you may have guessed from the photos above – it is all about who can show off the best slimey, foamy, gooey stuff!
*By the way, I am not entering the competition (there seems to be some confusion about this!) – my photos are simply to give you some ideas! But these are just suggestions – all kinds of slobber welcome, from formidable foam to dainty drips to serious slime…
Don’t worry if nature hasn’t blessed you with leaky jowls – I have created the ‘Amateur Drooler’ category for the more dainty breed of canine…
…and the ‘Prop-Assisted category for those who need a bit of help from the water bowl, prosthetics or even a generous slobbery friend!
There is also a Video category for those who feel that their drool is best appreciated in action…
You don’t have to produce serious alien slime or rabid froth to participate…dainty drips, wee bubbles and slow dribbles are all welcome! Remember, marks will be given for effort, creativity and originality!
Winners in each category will now be chosen by YOUR votes, instead of an independent judge. I will do a post showcasing all entries after Aug 20th, then the polls will be open for YOU to decide the most Spectacular Slobberer!
Spectacular Slobber contest!
To enter, post your best drool photo on your blog and then leave me a comment & link to let me know – or email your photo to bighoneydog@gmail.com - and let me know which category you would like to enter:
-
Professional Drooler category
-
Amateur Drooler category
-
Prop-Assisted category
-
Video category
All entries must be in before 20 August.
Happy Slobbering!

I am totally all over your contest.
Slobbers,
Mango
P.S. Ya know I did agilities when I was a wee pup of about 180 pounds, but getting through that tunnel was hard work!
Hi Honey -- wow, those are some impressive slobber photos! You've got all the moves haven't you -- those titles were hilarious! We don't slobber or drool at all, we just drip everywhere when we've had a drink because of our beards but that's not really the same thing! But we'll enjoy looking at the entrants photos -- what a great idea for a competition! Tail wags -- JD and Max.
Amazing! Love the locket slobber! I am not too drooly for a setter (my older sister was a champ) but will try my best. Ambrose may have a better chance since he has a lot more lip than I do. Great idea for a contest and you are setting an excellent example Honey.
Your friend,
Niamh
Brilliant! You are a super sloberer for sure! Moose has done sone of those… never the locket though! We have a version of the 'seat belt' but it is in the back seat… on the center headrest! Not a lot of takers for a ride back there so I guess it is all his!
I think Moose drools more than most labs (why I think he has a dash-o-dane in him), but nothing compared to the Bigger big dogs! We will try to enter, but between you and Mango I don't think we stand a chance
Moose + Dana
Too funny Honey!
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
Aww darn! Neither of my dogs ever drool! Not fair! Heheehehehe! This will be a lot of fun to watch at least. Can't wait to see some entries.
Hahaha! So funny. You really have some great slobber/drool pics. We're pretty much champion droolers too although we think Mango is going to give everyone a run for their money!
Hi Honey!
Tibby
You sure do have some spectacular slobbering skills! I really don't slobber so I will just have to be a spectator! But I can't wait to see all the other droolers!
Oh, Honey, what a spectacular contest! BOL
Let me tell you, Hsin-Yi is an absolute blast, what a sense of humour!
We've been away, we're so sorry. Work, work, work. We had 3 days of vacation, can you believe it?!?!? 3 days! Not a day more. Oh, well… as long as they take me to the beach every week…
We have to read your previous posts, I believe we lost 2 or 3 of them! We'll be reading them right away! We're anxious to check out your adventure, super-slobber-girl!
PS: I guess that, after seeing your pictures, NO DOG WILL EVER beat you in this contest!
BOL! You the queen of drool!
I does not drool, I have a little pointy mouth that keeps it all inside, but I look forward to seeing all the entries!
~lickies, Ludo
pee ess: You has just so put Mum off ever getting a jowly dog. heheeh
No droolers here so we won't be able to participate unless we fake it:) That first shot looks like the drool could be a wishbone!!!
Tail wags, the OP Pack
OMG! Honey, you are a champion slobberer. I love the tiffany locket photo… maybe you could model for them!
Me again Honey. I has just made Mum go back through old posts to check comments she beed 'too busy (pah)' to look at before.
We seed that you asked how I learned my whistle recall. You just do it like a mixture of teaching recall and clicker training. You load the whistle first like you do the clicker then move further away and blow the whistle and you come to it. It even working for Auntie Penny now and she had a bad recall from Mum not living with her for a while.
Mum also reinforces it everynow and then, we play whistle in the house, we has to stay in a room them Mum goes and hides and blows the whistles and then we run super fast to her and get treats hehe!
mum like the whistle cos she know it always make the same sound so a more reliable recall and she don't feel so silly screeching like she has to at Auntie Penny.
~lickies, Ludo
Oh, Honey, you are a great drooler! Tell you what! Cookie is a highly-skilled drooler too. We must show you a photo of him drooling.
Greetings Honey!
Oooh! I am so excited about the dwoool competition. It will be my first competition ever! I have been known to dabble in dwooling so I will certainly enter; but I think it must take years of practice to make special things out of one's dwool.
Like your Tiffany locket! It is a gweat accessory for you!
teehehehe
It is so sad Lemon is no longer wif you
but I am glad you have many fond memories of her though. I do love cats! Mumma has taught me that if I am very sensible I am aloud to go and say hello to the cats we see on our walk. But there is only one that is brave enough to let me close -- can you believe it?
big paw smack-downs to you,
Mr Darcy
Oh my, Mom can't even enter me in this competition because she has yet to see me drool! However she did meet another dog the other day -- a certain Mr Larsson -- who drooled all over her hand while wrestling. I don't think he beats you though, Honey!
Greetings from me and the pups,
Sheba
Those are the greatest photos! I don't think Oreo and Misty will be entering the contest -- they're not real big slobberers (is that a word?).
Sounds like some other dogs are up for the challenge though
glad we don't qualify for this. jan would disown us. hehe
Oh Honey, you are so multi-talented! You drool so beautifully.
I'm a pretty good drooler myself (not as good as you, though!)
I'll post a drooling picture on my blog in the next couple of days for the contest.
As for my dancing, well. What happened was this: I knew the "paw" command a long time ago. I have always lifted my right paw.
Then when Mama started saying "other," and coax me to lift my left paw, I did.. She was so pleased!
BUT, I don't know what happened. I think I finally took "other" as a correction and now when she says "paw," I lift my left paw (as opposed to my right like I used to.) And if she says "other" I don't know what to do!
So we're still stuck at marching paws. Hmmmmm. Do you think there is any hope for me?
<3

Hi, Honey!
Those are real slobbers!
It is going to be a pawesome contest!
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
BOL!!! THose pictures are great and the captions.
Wish I could enter but I must admit that I rarely slobber….I am a bit of princess and don't like to get slimy what can I say?
Your friend Chobe looks very fun!
Nala
Honey, we love your pics and you sure can drool! We didn't know that you Great Danes were so good!
We will try and get our camera woman to be ever at the ready although it has to be said we are not as good at drooling as our predecessor -- we still have his slobber on the ceilings!!!
love and kisses
Martha & Bailey xxxx
Honey, you are the Queen of Slobbers!
oooo mummys says we leave great goober slingers, this sounds like fun….will let ya know when mummy finds her pic Miss honey
Leans & Slobber (lol)
Stripe & Nitro
Honey, I've never seen anything quite like your drool photos! Mom is laughing so hard tears are streaming out of her eyes! The descriptions for the photos are just hilarious!
I am sorry to say I am a Sheltie and we just do not slobber! After seeing your slobbering, mom is relieved that I don't!
Hi Honey,
Maybe I can borrow a pint or two of Mango Suds so I can play too. Not a drooler or a slobberer, but I can make a tennis ball a gooey mess -- I'll try to get Mom to capture some of my finer efforts!
Your pal,
Petey
Hi Honey, it's Jasmine! Yes, you can definitely add me as a friend. I really like your idea about a contest for the boys. I'll have to work on that. Unfortunately they were raised out in a big pasture with little human contact so it might take a while before my humans can touch them, much like when I first arrived here.
Oh and the reason Kud is smaller is because he's younger than Musk. He will catch up I promise. Just wait until his first birthday.
Thanks for dropping by!
Jasmine
Hey, thanks for your encouragement about Jackal's naughtiness. I didn't stay calm thoough. I was screaming at him the entire time. That's why it took so long to catch him, but I am ever so slowly getting better at controlling my temper. At least I don't hit them anymore like when I was a teenager. I figure I deserved to scream a little bit though.
Anyway thanks again. I'm gonna just ignore the little doofus and try to work on relaxing today. My husband will be home today so he can take care of them for one day.
Oh, what fun!
I'm a drool machine, I'll be entering soon!
woof --
Tucker
You are right Honey we can drool a bit when we want to. We will have to see what we can come up with. I think we might just be able to get mom to take a great picture.
Great Idea!
Hi Honey here's coming something very special!!!! wait for us.
Jujù Usha Gastone & Racky
OMD Honey, you have some pawesome slobbers going on!! I do not drool much (I don't know why? I have big jowels!) but MAN, I can work a mean water-bowl face. I like to stick my whole face in my water dish, then carry water around the house and drop it everywhere, for unsuspecting humans to step in.
I will get my parents to take a picture of my "fake" drool!
xo
Oh my goodness Honey those were such spectacular drool photos of you….you would definitely win the competition!! I love your new Tiffany necklace…I wish my mom would get me one…LOL
Anyway I want to enter the competition alhough I'm very ladylike and I can't measure up to your standards but maybe if mom cooks something really delicious it will get my drool going and she can snap some pics of me in my best. I tend to be a dainty drooler. LOL
We don't have a blog so mom will send them to you via e-mail.
By the way mom says she love the capitons on your photos…Hsin-Yi is so clever.
AARF from Ms. Kasha
WOW -- we will see what we can come up with -- but us Bullies dont tend to drool -- but we will see with some smelly cheese maybe we can squeeze a couple drops out of woodrow
either way awesome contest we can wait to see the entries
Woodrow, Sweetie & MJ
Ha! You're so right Honey….this IS right up our street….great idea for a contest!….we'll get drooling straight away!
Love, love, LOVE the Tiffany locket….and the seatbelt is pretty funny too….safety first!
Umm…..slobbers!
OMG Honey, Mom is laughing hysterically at your funny photos right now. She says she loves you, drool and all. After all, she wants a Blood hound one day so she has to get used to it!
What a cool idea for a contest, we'll enter soon when Mom can catch us coming from the water bowl. We drip all over the place and it drives the beans CRAZY! BOL!!
Woofs and wags,
Benson and Gibson
Wow that is the most impresive drool I have ever seened!! And that is inclooding the Boxer Lucy that lived with us fer a wile whose drool wuz lejendary!!
Yer pal Dozer
OMC!!! This is too funny! We can't wait to see the pictures from this one!!!!!
Oh my. Honey, what amazing slobber art! Do your talents have no limit? I also love the way you accessorise- the jaunty scarf is such a fashion statement.
Hi Honey
I don't actually drool, but I do like to leave puppy spit on things. I'll see what I can come up with by the deadline!
Puppy kisses (with extra puppy spit)
Sasha
Wow Honey, I didn't know there was such a thing as slobber. Poodles don't really do that (hee hee). Your slobbering is very impressive. I'm sure it gets a lot of attention, especially your advanced techniques.
Teddy
wow! those are major sublime slobbers, honey! Woo … now if only the Chief could catch me in my drooling poses. She's usually scuttling off whenever I shake off me droolies…. apparently am pretty good at flinging them at unsuspecting bystanders …
LIcks and wags,
Tuffy and the Dog Woods Pack
oh dear--i can think of one heavy set boy of the mastiff type who will make a clean sweep of this contest…
Honey

I am visiting from Mango. That is some world class drool you've got going there. Wow! I am a shih tzu and don't drool much, although with my long hair, I do get quite drippy after a fresh drink of water. But thats about it, I do have a friend who is a great dane, his name is Freckles. I will go and try to get some advice from him.
licks and sniffs, Sasha
Wow Honey, you DO drool a lot!!! Why so foamy? My drool is beautifully clear
…..
I love the captions!
Behr Behr
Hi there, Honey
GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA
Mango referred us to your site and what a site! Congratulations on all your hard work and creativity!
Mango said that I should ask you to look at the pic of me in my latest blog post (today) and ask if it is worthy of entering your competition. If it is, please take it from there…or let me know what I must do.
You really are a beautiful pooch!
Looking forward to being friends.
Lots of licks
MAXDOG IN SOUTH AFRICA
Hi Honey
Pleased to meet you -- I don't think we have been introduced. I be Reilly the cowspotdog (although actually I am a white sheltie)
Ludo said I should come and by because I had a frothing at the mouth picture to share. When I get too hot I tend to slobber a bit and you can see my picture here
http://cowspotdog.blogspot.com/search/label/Frien…
It the bottom right hand photo and you can click on it to make it bigger
Hi Honey
Yes, it would be fine to enter my photo in the slobber contest….I hope frothing counts as that is what I really do when I get hot rather then slobber -- although mom still like it when I wipe it on her leg BOL!!!
What a wonderful contest. We will have to do the dainty drool even though there is nothing dainty about us.. Not even the little girl is dainty…
Big Sloppy Kisses
Gus, Louie and Callie
Hi Honey! Duke's very impressed by your drool….he wants to show off his own.
http://pawsandpastries.blogspot.com/2009/08/spect…
Can we do a video? Mommee just posted one on our blog that we think might be a good entry. It's the 2nd video, and it's the last 10 seconds or so. If we can enter that, mommee can edit the video down.
If not, it's okay--mommee will have to work on getting a good pic of us as slobber faces!
Wuv,
Gus and Waldo
Honey, I've posted my entry on my blog. What a fun competition, I can't wait to the entries!
Pawsome competition! I am going to enter because only I drool. Te other don't. Not even the pupplets. Let's see if I can produce the longest, slimiest, most disgusting string of drool! Will need the help of delicious food most definitely. Hee!
Smoochies,
The Solid Gold Dancer is BACK home!
Great idea for a contest! Savage's entry is on it's way!
Unfortunately Brody doesn't seem to have the necessary skills / equipment to enter this contest…. Not that I'm too sad about that!
