Introduction to Clicker Training – PART 2: Teaching Tricks

trickytbuttonYou know all the tricks and moves I learn – both for fun and also for my Canine Freestyle dance routines – are taught by clicker training.

So here is Part 2 of my ‘Introduction to Clicker Training’ movie – to show you how to get started in learning tricks! :)

I’ve also shown step-by-step how to learn 3 simple tricks: Hand Targeting, Spin and Beg.

Hope you enjoy it and find it useful!

* So sorry – I haven’t had the time to visit any of your blogs this week! Will try and get around to everyone this weekend – promise! ;)

** STOP PRESS! Am so excited! My blog friends, Rufus & Indie, have started clicker training and just posted a video of them learning the hand targeting – check it out HERE! – That is so cool!

Honey, Honey, Honey, I felt bad for you in the beginning of the movie when you kept trying to give your mom your paw. I do the same thing.

Those movies are so good and I always learn something new. Plus I just love watching you do your moves.

I didn't get to work on my moves at all today. Momma said it rained too much and now that it stopped raining the bugs are out. I need to get some super glue for pee-wee to hold him in one place. Then I could work on my moves inside.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

P.S. Maybe you could borrow Cinnamon sometime and show the same teachings with a little doggie.

What a great video. Hsin-Yi explains it all very well. Now, when I eventually get another dog I will know how to do clicker training. Thanks for sharing.

  3. You're the best Honey! And Hsin-Yi is a great teacher!
We are practicing hand targeting but Rufus is very slow on that!

another amazing video!!! You should know that you also have a great voice for type of stuff :) Many dogs will benefit from your instructions

  5. JD and Max says:

Oh Honey, you're amazing! We're going to become the best trained, cleverest doggies in our town and it'll be all down to you and Hsin-Yi! Max is already doing better on-lead -- well, we know it's because our human now knows what to do, really it' them that needs to be trained and not us, he he he! Tail wags -- JD and Max.

blogging is just for fun and it is too hard to get to everyone all the time, so you should never apologize! we are thinking of trying out the training. we will let you know how we do! some one here in nova scotia just invented the "clicker leash" to compliment the training technique! see ya soon sweet Honey!

  7. No problem at all! You can always link our posts and videos!

Honey, Hsin-Yi, I'm so very excited with this video! I'll start my clicker practice with Pipa next Monday. I'll have to buy a clicker first. I'll watch your video once again very carefully.

My God, Hsin-Yi, you were born to teach. Your blog is a revolution!! :)

  11. Mango says:

    Hey Honey!

Stop by my bloggy. I tagged you to play a new game. Might help take your Hsin-Yi's mind off worrying about your dance moves.

    Slobbers,

    Hi Honey!
I am excited to try out this clicker training! I still have to watch clip 1 as well. We will let you know how it goes!

  13. Cinnamon says:

Wow, another great video!! I love your begging trick!!

You asked how I'd learned my pivoting trick. It was actually very easy for me! I learned it quickly. I would say my natural instinct taught me to do that. So, my mum didn't do anything special. Mum saw Kikopup's video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsvNvK8T1z8) and used a basin instead of a book. I think I am just a clever girl, he he…

  14. Jackal says:

Another wonderful video! It was fun seeing you break down the tricks. Makes me want to try beg with Jackal again because now I see that I was rushing him and that's why he was afraid to do it. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos.

  15. We like to use clickes to capture certain behaviours and stick them to a command.

  16. Mango says:

    Oh Honey,

You can of course recap your partial year in review. Of course if you have photos from before you started your bloggy, that counts too.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

P.S. Guess what Pee-Wee did yesterday? Just to show off that he is not afraid to do business in the yard he pee'd and poo'd at the same time. What a doofus. Too bad no camera. Momma was laughing for some time.

  17. Dino says:

Impressive!!! Another excellent training video! I think Hsin-Yi should have her own clicker training school, she is really good at it! And Honey, you are a perfect student! Love, Dino

  18. great post -- you are doing such a wonderful job with these training videos -- we love the clicker -- mommy has a special clicker on her iphone that makes different noise too so that Sweetie and MJ can hear it since they are mostly deaf and only hear high pitches sounds

    Woodrow, Sweetie & MJ

  19. Sara Alves says:

    ohhhh myyyyy gooossshhhh!!!

We just got to see your second lesson (well didn´t finish it because the Internet is toooo slow!!! geee)

but we just realised! I´m that shark you were talking in the lesson!!!!

ok… I will not be a shark!! no I wont!

so we just practiced with me just touching Sara´s hand with the tip of my nose! it worked ok… I still like to stick my tongue out… but most of the time I get it right!

you can check out the "Shark Attack" at my blog hahahah I made a video

big licks, and we Will try to finish the lesson tomorrow!

  20. Tanya says:

blessings to you for writting a post on this.

  21. Jerith says:

My great dane and I have just learned the “back up” command and can do it reliably now thanks to your video and tips and tricks. Working on the spin this rainy afternoon — thanks for the break down tutorial, these are invaluable! My dane is deaf, so I’m glad to see your training through hand signals.
