My TV debut…!

UPDATE: the TV people have sent me a video of the show! Scroll down to the bottom of the post to watch the clip…

Wow – I had a very exciting day today!

Honey+TVNZ-doorsMy human, Hsin-Yi, took me to a place called ‘TV studios’ where they can  do magic so that I can fit inside the TV box. This is because they wanted me to show my dancing to human pups on a TV show called Studio 2

(check out my last post!)

It was a big place with lots of rooms and lots & lots of humans, who all squealed when they saw me and wanted to come and pat me.

Here I am arriving at the ‘TV studios’ place…

Honey+TVNZ-building

…there were humans sitting behind a table inside the door who asked me my name…

Am Honey the Great Dane...

Am Honey the Great Dane...

…and then we went into the ‘studios’ and Oooh, there were so many new smells and exciting things to check out…!

Wow! BIG camera machines!

Wow! BIG camera machines!

Oooh, what's this?

Oooh, what's this?

You're a funny looking doggie...

You're a funny looking doggie...

Then they said it was time for me to do my dancing and I could hear Hsin-Yi calling and calling my name but unfortunately, I had a relapse of a sickness I had when I was a young pup, called Selective Hearing (Sasha will know all about this!) and I just could not hear her…I was too busy and excited running around everywhere and checking out all the new smells! It was so much fun!

Ooh! What's this? And this? And this?!

Ooh! What's this? And this? And this?!

But then finally, I thought I’d better go to Hsin-Yi because I didn’t want her to show these TV people her Scary Face…how embarrassing would that be? She was standing in the special space for us to dance but it was so small! How did they expect me to shimmy around in there? Didn’t they realise that I’m a Plus-Size Girl??

Well, then I heard the music start and Hsin-Yi started asking me to do my dance movess but even though she was giving me treats, it was so hard to listen to her with all those strange lights coming in my eyes and flashing boxes behind me on the wall and then some humans carrying big camera machines started coming up to my face…so I just went up to him and stuck my nose into the camera’s eye and gave him my best slobbery smile!

Gosh, you’d think they’d be happy but no, I could hear Hsin-Yi screaming and people shouting something like “CUT!”  Cut? Cut what?

Honey-studioThen Hsin-Yi gave me a secret Scary Face – the one where she hopes no one else can see it except me – and told me to behave and said we had to start again! :( So I went to sit by her again and the music came on again and this time, I really tried to concentrate and do my dance moves…but it was still so hard because there were just too many interesting things in that room and the camera machines kept coming up to my face…and worst of all, there was no space to spin properly or back up or anything!

So…it was not my finest moment on camera. Hsin-Yi says I was so slow I looked like a zombie doggie! And I didn’t really show everybody how well I could dance…sigh… (well, it’s awfully hard in that tiny space and with all those distractions!) But anyway, she still gave me a cuddle afterwards and said I was a good girl.

Then the Presenter Humans came up to pet me and ask Hsin-Yi questions about me – they were really nice!

And then it was all finished! But lots of humans in the other rooms wanted to meet me so they asked Hsin-Yi if I would mind going around to say hello to them…well, of course not! I love making new friends!

Hello...would you like some of my slobber?

Hello...would you like some of my slobber?

Finally, it was time to go home. In fact, we got back just in time for the show and – whaddya know? – I AM inside the TV box!! That really is magic how they managed to fit me in!!

Note from Hsin-Yi:

I was a bit disappointed that Honey didn’t do better today but everyone tells me I’m a terrible perfectionist! :) Poor thing – it was a lot for her to take in - too many distractions! - and I think she was a bit over-excited to focus, even with the yummy roast chicken I was holding in my hand! Also, the space really was tiny – I could barely dance properly, never mind Honey! It could have been worse, I suppose, like she could have been frightened of all the lights and cameras in her face, which a lot of dogs would have been…but at least she was confident and sociable…even if she did go and slobber on the camera!! ;)   Anyway, it was an interesting experience and we had fun!

Here is the clip of the show featuring Honey:

-Whew! Am exhausted from all the excitement…don’t need a walk today…am off to have a nap…Bye!

  • Honey & Hsin-Yi, that is SUPER cool!!! Oh Honey, I can understand about all those distractions & stuff. It’s really hard to concentrate when there’s lights flashing everywhere & the big black camera comes close to you… I want to watch the video BUT it’s only for New Zealand viewers only. Awwww…. I guess when you get your DVD, you can upload it on YT & then we all can watch.

  • WOW! We’re so proud of you, Honey! It was your first time on television! I Knew you would be really famous one day! This is just a start! :) :)

Carla’s trying to see the show on our computer, but we can’t. We’ll keep trying and we will wait for you to put it here! :)

    You’re the best!

    Love

    Pipa

  • Secret scary face? Good thing those other people didn’t see or they would have turned to stone (or maybe started dancing).

I have the selective hearing too. Sometimes even when momma is only a few inches from my large and disobedient face.

Ha! I bet they were not prepared for you slobbers. Hope you left some snooter marks on the camera.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  • Crickey Honey, I saw you on the box thing today, couldnt work out how the heck you got into it? Are you out now? cant be too comfortable. Tell Sinny she looked gorgious, and you didnt look too bad either for a Girl.
not much room on that stage for you, I thought you were going to walk backwards right off the edge, difficult being a big K9 sometimes I expect. Any way you got most of your moves, so good on you, your a tv star now, I hope they gave you some treats for being good?

  • Oh, Honey, I’m glad you’re ok, I was so worried about how you were going to get out of the TV box thing!

I think you did a marvellous job, what with all the people and lights and camera things – I don’t think you had Selective Hearing at all, more like you didn’t have enough ears to hear anything.

I think you are very brave to go into the TV box thing, and still manage to get out at the end.

    Puppy kisses

  • Honey, very well done. It’s not easy in the studio with all the lights, cameras and crew.

The first time we were in studio the producer’s assistant had given the little man a packet of crisps to keep him happy while we were waiting and then just as we went live on camera – the producer grabbed them out of the little man’s hand!! The following few moments were not easy – autistic kid madly upset in studio, stressed mom, even more stessed interviewer and very very stressed producer!

Anyway, it gets easier!! Really! We think you did a great job on your first TV outing!

    Take care
    Clive

  • Wish we could see the video :( Bummer.

Love the photos though – everything is sooooo colorful in the studio! And boy there was A LOT of STUFF in that place. No wonder you had to go check everything out. Looks to me like you won everyone over with your charm!

    What an exciting day!

  • ahhhh–we will have to wait for the video as well here in canada! but that is ok! Tell your mom not to worry Honey! we have all seen you at your best and how can they expect you to do anything in a small little area anyways? don’t they know you are a great dane???? SHEESH!!!

  • Hi Honey!
What cool is that! You went to ” tv studios “and could smell lots of interesting things there. Obviously it was not easy to show a great performance with all those lights and cameras behind you.
Anyway, I´m so proud of you! You looked great in all those pictures.

    xoxo,
    Thor

  • I’m sure you did perfectly fine Honey. It’s not your fault TV people don’t know about dogs and didn’t give you enough time to explore before asking you to get to work. I look forward to seeing the video.

  • You are the most popular dog I know. How exciting to be your friend =) Sorry the space was too small to show off your skills.

  • Wonder why it’s for NZ viewers only? We can’t wait to see it on your blog. A TV studio could be very intimidating, so Honey did great. Even washed a camera. What an exciting day!

  • Oh Honeygirl, this is so exciting. You were on (in) the TV! I’m sure your dancing was gorgeous despite all the distractions. I can’t wait to see your performance. So Hsin-Yi gives you the scary face, eh? I get that too plus the witch voice. {{{Shudder}}}

As for my dancing lessons, well, Mama thinks I wasn’t born to be a dancer. I just can’t seem to concentrate after the “other” command, which I am proud to say I now do without prompting. I can switch paws like no one else – except you, of course, but after that, I’m lame. Oh well..

  • Oh dear….I tried to comment but failed! :( Anyway, I am so excited to see your debut! I think it’s great that you slobbered in the camera….just keepin’ it real! You are my kind of girl Honey! :) You and Hsin-Yi looked beautiful at the studio…I bet your performance was amazing. :)

    Kisses,
    Nala

  • Oh Honey, we’re so excited about knowing a TV star that we’re almost wagging our tails off over here in the UK!! Well done – we know that Hsin-Yi was only disappointed for you as she knows that you are THE dancing queen who just didn’t get a real chance to strutt her stuff to the World as the studio was built for humans and not for Great Danes – bummer! :p

But wowee – you really put the word ‘Great’ into Dane you know, we’re totally starstruck! Can we have your pawtograph please?! :)

And we agree with Mango – if Hsin-Yi had revealed her scary face to anyone there then the whole studio would probably have been dancing in unison, he he he!

(We LOVED the photo of you giving your name to the reception by the way – soooo cute and funny, he he he :D Oh – and our female human wanted to say that Hsin-Yi looked especially cute and pretty too!)

Big starstruck Schnauzer snuggles from your number one fans – JD and Max!!

  • Hi Honey, it was really exciting to see our friend dancing in the TV box! Your movement got better and better toward the end of the short routine. It must’ve been very hard to dance in such a small studio. And most importantly you and Hsin-Yi looked so beautiful!! We can’t wait to hear all about it in person soon!!

  • Oh Honey! We so proud of you. I know they will all love you, even if your dancing didn’t be it’s best.

The tv people shoulda let you come down to the studio a couple times before to see all the lights and things to get used to it.

We casnot wait to see the video.
    ~lickies, Ludo

  • What a fun experience Honey…congratulations!!

  • You need to change the name of your blog to Honey the Famous Great Dane!!

  • I can’t see the video but I am sure you did it great!
My mom worked for a tv channel some time ago and she was always nervous! Don’t feel bad!
    Kisses and hugs

  • Wow!!! You are so Super Famous! And it looks like you had a great time (Mom says I’d be running around like a Mad Woman if I was in a similar situation!).

  • We bet your performance was just stellar. It must be very hard to concentrate with all the things going on all around.

We were worried about you when we heard about the earthquake. We hope it didn’t affect you at all.

Mom was so very touched by your comment about Phantom, you helped put it all in perspective. Thank you so much.

    woo, the OP Pack

  • Yay Honey!! I am shore if TV wuz made by dawgs fer dawgs then you would have had more space to danse! Sheesh that is size diskriminashun! Well anyways I cant wate to see the moovee! I am shore you did a reel nice job.

    Yer pal Dozer

  • How exciting!! It must have been REALLY distracting but we’re sure you still showed them some of your great moves. Can’t wait to see it!
Your mom should be very proud of you. Maybe they’ll invite you back and then you’ll be an old pro!

  • Honey you are amazing!! And so is your Mum too. Congratulations on making it onto the T.V We love watching all your videos.. xx

  • Wow! This is so awesome! We wish we could also watch you and Hsin-Yi on TV.

    Licks,
    Adele, Vincent & Bella

  • How exciting Honey!! Can I have your autograph. Guess what!! Greart Dane SE Tex Rescue is gonna have a booth right close to DROH at the Reliant Dog Show. At the last event we went to that had a booth right next to us and they are so cool.

I wish you was gonna be there. I’d give you a free kiss if you was there.

    {{{huggies}}}….MonA

  • Honey, you and Hsin-Yi rocked! Now, I know you can dance better than that, but considering it was your first time, you were amazing. Even the most hardened telly performers can baulk at the site of cameras, and I though you were very professiona. And my human pups didn’t notice any mis-steps, they just thought you were awesome. I am not surprised all the TV people wanted to meet you!

  • Honey and Hsin Yi!

How exciting. We can’t wait to see you perform in the small box!

  • Hi Hsin-Yi and Honey….

I just saw your TV debut and I thought you guys looked lovely! Great Job!! Two paws up from Ms. Kasha.

  • Wow Honey! You are a superstar! I can’t believe you were called Dopey and Lazy though! ;-) That space was tiny for sure and I could tell that cramped your style a bit but still it was awesome! You were a wonderful spokes dog for Massive hounds everywhere.
    Moose + Dana

  • Wow, Honey good job even with all the distractions! Mom did a great job of making it look smooth. Excellent to both of you. My Colbi would have been very distracted and afraid of the whole event. She is working on her courage and confidence and we are going to begin learning some of the tricks that you have so kindly shown us.
    Thanks,
    Colbi and Betty

  • We were finally able to watch your TV debut since you put it on youtube. We thought you were fabulous. You did really well in a VERY small space. The song you chose was perfect for the two of you. Congrats again. You’re both stars!

  • OMG! OMG! Honey, you were fantastic!!!! I could see where there wasn’t a whole lot of room to dance in but you were a real pro and made the best of it. I love to watch you dance. Big hugs to Hsin-Yi. She’s an amazing choreographer. Congratulations to you both.xooxoxoxoxo

  • Wow, Honey, what a star you are! It must have been really hard to concentrate with all that fun stuff to sniff out. My mum says I get easily distracted and I get very excited when I have to show my tricks to anyone – especially when there’s treats involved. You must be the most famous dog in NZ by now!
