A walk with Chobe & breakfast at Mission Bay…

Sunday morning, the day after my dancing competition , my humans took me for a good run on Mission Bay beach – (us doggies are only allowed on the beach in winter, before 10am and after 4pm, so we always go a lot during the winter months) - Hsin-Yi said we had been training so hard in the last few weeks and it was good to ‘let loose’!

We also met up with some of my humans’ friends who had gotten a new puppy a few months ago. Their new puppy is called Chobe (after the Chobe River in Botswana) – he is an 8 month-old Labrador/Collie/NZ Huntaway-cross and he is really sweet!

We hit it off straight away and had a mad play together!

It’s not easy for me to find a doggie playmate – a lot of dogs get frightened of my size and get really defensive or they get scared ‘coz I play very rough! It takes a really confident dog to play with me…and Chobe was great!

My human kept telling me to be careful because she was worried about me hurting him – especially when I rolled him over or did my ‘sumo wrestler’ squashing move! – but he just kept coming back for more! :)

After a bit, we calmed down and had a nice walk on the beach together…

…he was almost like my little shadow! :)

There was also another doggie who came with Chobe’s owners, called Molly, who belonged to some other friends.

But Molly was a bit grumpy – (she kept showing me her teeth everytime I went near her!) - and not really interested in playing…

She just kept running around and around us, barking and trying to round us up all the time! ;)

Whew – I hadn’t had such a good play in a long, long time! I almost felt like a puppy again myself! :)

After our walk, our humans took us to the Stonehouse Mecca Cafe beside the beach for breakfast – this is a great place which has lovely views of the beach and the best part is that there is a section of the cafe where doggies are allowed!

Well, the humans had breakfast…we doggies had to do Down Stays by the table and only SNIFF the delicious food! So unfair!

It can be really hard for some doggies to learn to wait for their humans – they think they can get their way by whining and crying but usually, if us doggies are ignored by our humans when we do naughty behaviours, we stop doing them after a while. Instead, if humans give us attention and reward us with praise when we’re being good (like lying quietly!), then we will repeat those behaviours that we are rewarded for…and basically, be good more! :)

Anyway, all 3 of us doggies were very good and let the humans eat their breakast in peace…and at the end, they gave us all leftovers from their plates! :) Yum!

Here is a short movie of me playing with Chobe…not bad for a ‘middle-aged’ giant breed girl like me, huh? ;)

What a wonderful morning!

  • It is so nice to see you being a puppy – you run so gracefully for such a big dog! Chobe sure loved playing with you – we love that photo of the two of you chilling, side by side, on the beach. Thanks for sharing your fun day at the beach.

  • What a great day! We love all the pictures. The video is funny. Now we KNOW that we would all be best friends, because that is just how we play together! We agree that it is hard to find furiends that like to play with us, because we play rough! It is funny in the video when you almost knock over that lady!

  • Chobe is a lovely dog! I’m glad you had a fantastic Sunday!

  • Isn’t Mission Bay gorgeous? We love it there too. So unfair you doggies can only have restricted visits, but at least you get to make the most of it in winter. (And it looks like you had most of it to yourself too, so plenty of room for running and playing). You were really good to be so patient during breakfast, so you certainly earned your reward of leftovers.

  • Hi Honey
I like the photo of you with your ears up and ready to take off BOL

The collie looks like like me grandpa’s collie, Lad! Funny that she was trying to round you up like sheep! :)

  • What a super fun day! I haven’t been to the beach yet, but you and Chobe look like two peas in a pod! :)

  • Hi there!

We are first time visitors to your blog, we came over from Khyra’s place, and WE LOVE IT HERE!!! Mom LOVES Great Danes, she grew up with one, so she loves all the pictures of you! That video was hilarious too! Seems to us that most dogs get the zoomies when they go to the beach!

Anyhow, we hope we can be new friends with you. We would love for you to come and visit us sometime. We are two Golden Retrievers with three kitty kin. Hopefully we will see you soon; we will definitely be back here to visit you again!

    Wags and woofs,
    love,

  • Hi! We love the beach and making new friends!!!! Hugs Joey and Kealani

  • Hi Honey,

It’s great to see you bouncing around with your friends! You look like a teenager in human age. They say having young friends is a tip for getting rejuvenated :-)

  • You deserve a nice play date on the beach after the competition! Chobe looks like a great playmate. Hope the two of you can get together again for more wild play. I’m glad you people gave you some of that delicious looking breakfast.

    Your friend,
    Niamh

  • Hehe, Honey you really is so very big! Look at your paws next to chobe. I has to be honest, I think I would be a little scared of playing rough with you too. Looked like lots and lots of fun!!
    ~lickies, Ludo

  • Honey, you look wonderful with your ears in the air.

That Chobe sure is a feisty pup.

Watching your video made me feel happy.

  • Oh Honey, you are SOOOO lucky to have friends to play with and a beach to run on with them! I have trouble finding friends who will play with me and not be afraid, like you said. Looks like you guys had a great day though!!
