Agility Anyone?

This post is dedicated to all my doggie friends who do Agility! :)

I’m always really impressed by my friends who do Agility – you see, moving fast, running around and jumping a lot (without a ball involved!) is just not really my thing…

Then I recently found some movies that put me to shame! Here are some wonderful (non-doggie) creatures who not only do agility…but are scarily good at it! If they can do it, then I really have no excuse! (And their humans – what fantastic trainers they must be!!)

First up, here is Brain Storm the Mouse doing the Longest Agility Course in the World – isn’t he amazing? I think my favourite bit is the “hoops” made from coffee cup handles! :D

Next, here are some gorgeous bunnies competing in Agility – just like doggies! Ludo – did you know about this rabbit sport?? Maybe you could help teach Faline and her gang to do this too! ‘Tricky Rabbit Day’ – hee! hee!

Then there’s the Agility Hamster…

Yup, gerbils do it too…

…and here is a guinea pig learning to weave, using a target stick…

…and even chickens doing Agility!

And finally, for all my friends who find it too difficult to get agility equipment to practise at home…just grab yourself some human teenagers!! :D

* Hmm…funny how there’s no ‘cat agility’??!!

* Updated: My friends, Lenni & Ressu, have told me that there IS cat agility!

…and they told me there is even Lamb Agility!

Hi Honey -- that was such a fun post! Goodness me, if even chickens can do this then we have NO excuse whatsoever!! We’ve just posted our picture tag game by the way -- it was fun, thanks for tagging us! Tail wags -- JD and Max.

  4. Pipa says:

    Chickens doing agility?? ohmigosh… I need to study… oh man… geee…

Well, but… I can chew walls! :) Bet chickens don’t do that! AH!

  5. Ricky says:

Wow -- the bunny show jumping was awesome! Thanks for finding all these videos and sharing them!

  6. Those were great Honey! I’d seen the hampster video, but none of the others.

  7. That’s true, there is no cat agility that I’ve ever heard of. I wonder if that’s because cats can’t be bothered, or because they’re already so agile that trying to train them to be more agile would be pointless. (My cat is a bit of a klutz, so it’s probably the former.)

  8. Farley's Mom says:

That was amazing! I enjoy this very much :)

  9. Lorenza says:

I just can’t close my mouth! Awesome!
    thanks for sharing them!
    Kisses and hugs
    Lorenza

  10. Honey, you are so good at finding great videos!! What was interesting is that the rabbits often pause before jumps and jump very hight without running. Also, in the video of lamb agility that Lenni and Ressu told us about, we like the part that the lamb is given milk as reward!

  11. Khyra says:

    Now I HAVE seen evfurrything!

But woo still khan’t make me do it!

    Tank woo fur sharing!

    Hugz&Khysses,
    Khyra

  12. Mango says:

Honey! I am not sure that was such a good idea. Now you have momma all saying, “Sheesh, Mango, if a chicken can do it…”

I was a bit concerned that the bunny one looked like an actual competition. Where do they work out I wonder?

I liked the obstacles for the little mouse. Somebody really loves that guy.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  13. The OP Pack says:

Wow, that was all so amazing and surprising. Mom always wishes she could do agility with Thunder but she worries about falling and breaking a bone -- she has osteoporosis. It sure does look like a lot of fun.

    woos, the OP Pack

  14. Niamh says:

Great videos Honey. Those rabbits can really jump. I love to go through tunnels. I wish I had time to do agility.

    Your friend,
    Niamh

  15. Tuffy says:

*chuckles*! The entire load probably have more agility sense than our Top Dog Tuffy … he trips on his own paws sometimes …

    Tee

  16. Jackal says:

Those were fantastic! Makes me want to get a rabbit to teach it to do agility. My rabbits I had growing up only ate and pooped and had babies. Boring lol!! Also the lamb was very cute! I loved the “pause for milk table”. Thanks for posting those. They were great.

  17. Jackal says:

Oh and the people as obstacles for the agility course was great! You can tell that was well rehearsed. :)

  18. Ludo says:

Pawsome videos Honey! We has seen the rabbit one afore but mine wont do things like that, they wont have the harnesses on and is too stroppy. Mum has tried a bit of clicker training with them but mostly they get bored and wander off unless she has something really yummy and sweet and rabbits casnot have much of that cos they have really sensitive tummies. But it is fun to watch!
    ~lickies, Ludo

  19. MrsDesperate says:

Honey, you are clever to find all these videos. It’s great to be reminded how smart and able animals -- and their owners -- are. I can’t wait to show these videos to the kids this afternoon.

  20. how amazing -- but there is nothing better than bullies doing agility -- in our opinion -- we run right through obstacles we dont like and sound like a bull in a china shop doing it.

but all those videos were amazing

  21. Dozer says:

Ah yes ajilitee. I used to do that. It is how I getted my nikname tunnel buster… and fer sum reeson Mummy stopped taking me to ajilitee soon after that. I am not shore why. I meen the tunnel is better wen it is nice and strate rite??

Mummy luvs all these videos you haves here. She is watching them all overs and overs and not paying atenshun to me!!

    Yer pal Dozer

  22. Gus n Jake says:

Great collection of videos -- I’ve seen some but by no means all! Good to meet you by the way!

  23. Amber says:

Ahhhh Honey, I agree about having lots of fun walking spots rather than fenced in flat areas….much nicer for exploring and sniffing! I am lucky to live in a very explorable spot myself. :)

Great walking tips….MOm says I am actually pretty good but she says she needs to be more consistent with me when greeting other dogs because I get so excited and pull….well, I really just pull when it is my friends that I play with all the time. I just get so excited! Unfamiliar dogs don’t get me that excited though. :) Also, when someone is at the door I have to immediately say hello which Mom says she should work on but I do wait at the end of the driveway and I always stay within eyesight of Mom when off leash. That makes her feel very safe and me too. :) In fact, we met a lady this weekend who will be adopting my half-brother that is just 5 days old right now and she was impressed with how well I did on leash and how mellow I was. There was even a flock of geese and I just tilted my head a couple of times and kept walking. ;) Mom was very proud of me! Mom did make sure to tell the lady though that it took lots of practice over my 3 years to achieve that. Anyway, I am excited to one day meet my half-brother Remi when he is old enough. :)

One more thing, I saw the update on your pal Ombre! So glad he is doing well and how fun that you got an update. :)

    Love,
    Nala
