"a day in the life of a dancing dog…" – Dancing gig @ 4 Seasons Pets

Honey-outside-4SeasonsEver wonder what it’s like being a dancing dog? :) Well, come with me and I will take you ‘behind-the-scenes’ at one of my dancing gigs!

Last weekend, my human, Hsin-Yi, and I did a display – with some of the other Paws 2 Music club members – at Four Seasons Pets, one of the biggest pet stores in Auckland.

They were having lots of special programmes for their “birthday weekend” and doggie dancing was one of these!

We arrived early so we had time to check out the venue and warm up before the show…

Have you checked the sound system? And the lighting?

… and then it was time to get the show on the road!

Of course, after the performance, we enjoyed mingling with our fans…lots of human pups wanted to come and do tricks with us, so all of us doggies graciously obliged (anything for more treats! ;) )

I was especially excited because my good friend, Dizzy Mum - who had written an article about me for New Zealand Women’s Weekly magazine – had brought her human pups to watch me!

I had a great time doing tricks with Dizzy Mum’s little human girl pup – she gave me lots of treats and got me to Back Up and Bow and even do Spins (although I nearly toppled her over when I smacked her with my bum during the Spin…oops! ;) )

My humans were super-impressed because she is the first person they know (including themselves!) who doesn’t scrunch up her face or scream and run away when I try to give her slobbery kisses!  What a nice human pup!

Slurp! Slobber!

Slurp! Slobber!

And look, we’re even the same height! :) Well, almost! She’s a bit taller than me but I’ll bet she isn’t heavier than me!!

...

...

OK, so what’s next? The after-show party, of course! ;) I had a wild time, as you can see in my video below…!

And what after-show party would be complete without a goodie-bag?

my goodie-bag from 4 Seasons Pets...

Four Seasons Pets were really generous and gave each of us doggies a bag stuffed with toys and treats!

Woohoo! Look what I got!

Woohoo! Look what I got!

Hsin-Yi says I’m starting to earn my keep now! Hee! Hee! :D

Anyway, so here is a video I made of my day…hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed living it!!

Hi Honey! Just LOVE those dancing movies of you! In fact, am so inspired that I got mom to paw a lady who doesn’t live to far away to help me try out a bit of dancing!!! Can’t wait! Thanks for being such an inspiration! (And congrats on all that booty too! Looks yummy and the toys look very cool!)
    Hugs xo

  4. Mango says:

I have to say the after party looked like the most fun. What kind of ball were you playing with? I think I would like one like that.

You came so close to getting slobbers on that little human pup. I was rooting for you, but she was out of range, huh?

Goodness, I believe you went a bit cracker dog over that box of cookies. I have never seen you acting so wild. I kind of like that side of you.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  5. Storm says:

That was a great video! I like your music selection. And the dane sized ball you were playing fetch with is awesome! I love watching her run.

  6. Lindsay says:

That sounds like a really fun day! And your doggie store looks wonderful!

  7. Oh Honey -- looks like you were a real crowd pleaser!

What a great day you had!

  8. Wow Honey, we love the pictures of you and the human pups! hehe. Your temperament is really wonderful!

If only we could see u in person!!

  9. Neat video. Looks like Honey was on cue that day. And she sure didn’t need any help opening the cookies.

  10. Mason Dixie says:

What an awesome time you had =) I especially loved the opening of the cookies, he he

  11. DizzyMum says:

What a fantastic performance. We thought all the doggies and their humans were brilliant, but thought you and Hsin-Yi stole the show (but we might be a bit biased!). It was great that the humans took time to involve the kids at the end. I loved the goodie bag and thought your expression as you waited for your biscuit was priceless. Thanks for inviting us!

  12. Oh what fun! The whole thing looked a bit like a party from that video but I guess you just make dancing look fun! It was nice of you to clean that human pup’s face like that, unless you were just cleaning your own slobbers off! Either way she was a good pup to let you do it since you are about the same size as her!
The cookie box was hilarious. We have seen that box of cookies and know just how big it is so it is amazing you could fit it in your beak sideways! We like how it seemed like you were happy playing with the new toy then must have suddenly got a whiff of what was in the box ;-) So sweet! So many of your mannerisms remind me of my moose if that makes any sense, just the way you hold your head and pick things up and such. I know it seems like most pups are the same but watching you just looks like a bigger blonder moose running around!
Thanks for sharing your awesome day!

  13. Dozer says:

  15. Brownie says:

OMD! What fun! You did such a pawsome job, Honey, I love the trick where you go around Hsi-Yi’s baton. So cool!

  16. The OP Pack says:

Have no fear, Honey, we LOVED it. Even the oldest grandbiped sat with Mom and watched the whole video. Her favorite part was when you tried to get that box of biscuits open -- LOL. What a huge pet store and lovely pressies they gave you.

    Tail wags, the OP Pack

    Hey Honey and human!
So sweet of you to stop by, especially since I see how truly busy you have been. I wish I could say I have accomplished just as much, but I haven’t. Keep up the good work! You two are amazing!

  20. WOWZERS! What a great inside look at everything! Thanks for taking us backstage -- that was so cool! And you are SUCH a good dancer! I think I’d have two left paws… oh, wait… I do have two left paws. Ha roo roo roo! (I’ll bet you get that one a lot, don’t you?)

  21. The PR Gang says:

Terrific video! you always have a great combo of music, video and photos which makes it fun to watch.
What a fabulous day you both had.

  22. Hi Honey and Hsin-Yi,

It’s a shame that we missed the chance to see you dancing in person, especially when you performed at a pet shop we frequent! But, you know we were over 200km away at that time, as Cinnamon was taking part in her first agility championship. We watched your video. You did great yet again! When are you performing next time? We must not miss the next one!

About my (Cookie’s) entry to the Spectacular Slobber Contest, I would like to enter the Professional Drooler Category!

Also, thank you for asking about our trip to Tauranga. Our mum will write about it in our next post!

  23. Chow Chow says:

Oh Honey, I love all your videos and this one is by far my favourite! What an amazing way to spend your day. I bet you and Hsin-Yi are super happy!

  24. Miss Kylie says:

I just LOVE that picture of you given that little pup a big wet smack on the face and she just smiled! :) I don’t like kids but she’s on my good list!

  25. Happy says:

Honey, will you give me front row tickets the next time? The human pup is adorable.

  26. You’re looking very high class in your little tie, Honey! Good job on the dancing!

  27. Jasmine says:

Hi Honey! Actually that’s a very good question. I’m happy to say that the Queen is the most important member of the herd. The males even have to listen to her, so nope they aren’t the king. Poor fellows.

    Jasmine

  28. Oh yeah…you gals are good! Well done..

P.S. Ssh…Don’t give my human idea abt earning my keep.

  29. Brutus says:

You guys are fantastic! Honey you are so light on your feet, especially considering how big you are! I vote you the best in show for sure -- loved the moves with the prop, and your mom looks like she had more fun then anyone else!!

  35. parlance says:

That’s lovely video of a lovely day! I think the part I love the most is when the children are doing dancing tricks with the dogs. It was also fun to see Honey playing and running, and I laughed when she tried to eat the box of biscuits.

By the way, Johann over in the US write about getting antlers as chews -- I was wondering whether you can get antlers in NZ, seeing you have a deer farming industry, I think.

  38. Hi Honeydog,

Thanks for visiting our blog! The doggie festival was lots of fun. I was so proud to win that contest!

Our great dane meetup is big. There are at least 15-20 danes at most of our meetups. So far a lot of them have been harlequins, merles and mantles. Only a few beautiful fawn doggies like yourself, and only a few black and brindle ones as well. Blue seems to be the least likely to be seen, and boy are they pretty.

It was sad to hear the news about Gibson the Great Dane…he sure was a big handsome boy. One of the Great Danes that comes to our meetup was going to be challenging his record next weekend, now that Gibson is gone I wonder what will happen with that.

Mom and I sure love the pictures of you with the little human pup. She’s one cute kid! I love human pups too, just have to remember not to bounce around too much when I’m around them! Its hard to remember everything when you’re just a pup yourself.

  39. Mr Darcy says:

    Herro Honey,

Thanks for allowing us a glimpse into your starlet lifestyle!
Wow your gig was amazing and the gifts from your adoring fans, are so special!

I think you are really down-to-earth to share your special skills wif the common people after your performance.

I am sorry to hear your hooman has a heart murmur. I am quite lucky because my murmur is not a big deal. I hope your hooman’s murmur isn’t a big deal either.

    smooches,
    Mr Darcy
