Hooray! Yesterday at the Canine Freestyle show, I finally did my ‘Me & My Shadow‘ dance routine really well!
My humans were very proud of me…I almost got a ‘clear round’ on my routine and did all my moves, even the really difficult Reversing with Target Stick, and I didn’t jump up on Hsin-Yi once!
Well, I’d better explain why I managed to do so well:
I was worried that Hsin-Yi was going to make me work without treats again, like at the last competition - how dare she! – and so I was thinking about either going on strike again or maybe jumping up and giving her head a good smack again…
But then she told me that because there weren’t enough competitors at the senior level, there would be no official competition for the Open class and so we could do our routine as a ’demo’…which means that humans are allowed to hold food in the ring!
Well, I don’t care what they call it but I’m glad they finally saw sense! I know that you might convince other working-type doggies to just do things for the fun of it but I’m certainly not lifting a paw without some serious motivational rewards in sight!

(sorry, these pictures are ‘freeze-frame’ shots from the video so not very good quality!)
Of couse, our humans are still not allowed to feed us doggies during the routine, and all food must be put into a nylon stocking and tied to the fingers, so nothing can drop out in the ring…but still, just having the yummy smelly little morsel in my human’s hands focused my mind wonderfully! Hee! Hee!
Oh, and my friend, Cinnamon the Beagle did great at the “One Minute Busking” event – this was a special event at the end of the show to give all the complete beginner doggies, with no experience of Freestyle, a chance to try doggie dancing and see what it’s like!

Cinnamon showing that Beagles can dance too!
Cinnamon had only heard about it 2 days ago so she didn’t have much time to prepare or practise! She knew a lot of tricks already and she’d come over to my house on Friday to get some help with dance moves…but it’s still a big jump from that to going into a big ring and doing it in front of an audience, when you’ve never done anything like this before! Isn’t she and her human brave? We were so proud of them!
The other big excitement was that another TV programme wanted to film me and Hsin-Yi for their show and so they sent a Reporter Human and Director Human and Camera Human to come and watch us! After all the dancing was over, they came up to me with a big camera machine and asked me lots of questions…

…like why I like dancing and when I started my training – and of course, how much do I eat!!

Whew! So all in all, it was a very exciting day!!

Hi Honey -- oh, well done! What an exciting day for you -- competing so wondefully (we’re always blown away by your dancing videos) and then appearing on TV again! We’re so proud to say we know you, we boast about it all our pals!
Cinnamon was amazing too -- he’s such a natural. You really deserve to put your paws up and have a lovely long rest after that.

Great job.

Great routine Honey! Your back ups are terrific and I really like the lateral moves that you did. Of course the tv crew wanted to interview you and Hsin-Yi. You two are a great team.

I’ll never be that good, Honey. Ah I know what I’m good at: lap dance, yeah, on my mom’s lap demanding treats, hehe.

OMD! What a wonderful routine -- we agree that there is no point in doing anything if food isn’t involved! I loved the part where you go around the target stick and I loved the little beagle’s enthusiasm.
You are so talented Honey! ( And so is Hsin-Yi…
)
We canines agree, there is nothing like food to motivate us to greater heights. Or lows, in the case of down or roll over. Good job! You lead a very exciting life.
Hi, Honey!
Congratulations! You two did a pawesome job!
And Cinnamon too!
You are so famous! Everybody loves you!
Kisses and hugs

Well Honey, that was absolutely stunning! All your hard work finally paying off!. We congratulate you! You both look so beautiful (and happy) in the ring. It is quite surreal and looks so easy…but we know otherwise.
Well done and congratulations again!

WOW! Honey, you did GREAT! So did Cinnamon!
that’s so cool that you’re a TV star now, too. Did anyone ask for your paw-tograph afterwards?
Luv,
Dave
PS: We get that “how much do they eat” question all the time, too. I don’t get it!
Wow they sure like to get up in your face with those cameras don’t they?
You did great on the routine. I was just wondering if you’d work for no food if Hsin-Yi rubbed a hot dog all over her hand before going into the ring. She wouldn’t be holding any food and I don’t think she could get in trouble for that would she? Maybe just a suggestion. I don’t know if it would work or not.
AWESOME Honey! You are an inspiration! Congrats to you and Hsin-Yi for all your training and hard work. You performed a great routine.
Cinnamon did really well too for his first time.
Kathie & Jackson
Congratulations, Honey! And remember, the correct answer to “How much do you eat?” is, “How much have you got?”
We really love to watch the two of you dance!! You are just so fantastic!!
Hi Honey and Hsin-Yi,
It’s Cinnamon here! Thank you so much for giving us a chance to show what I love doing. Mum was not 100% happy because we couldn’t show everyone the latest trick I had learnt, ‘Stand and Bow,’ but I enjoyed it 100%!
It was so exciting to see you dancing in person at last!! Your dancing was the most elegant in the competition. No other competitor would ever be able to dance like you!
I look forward to watching your another TV appearance!
Honey! You and Cinnamon did great!!! We have so much fun wathcing you!! And we are amazed that the big ole camera in your face doesn’t bother you.
We posted some videos for you at our blog!
Oh Honey and Mom, that was just wonderful -- we loved it. Wish we could see you perform right there with you. And Cinnamon did great for his first time. Please tell his mom we said congratulations.
woos, the OP Pack
Honey! You missed you the step where you jump on your Hsin-Yi’s head!
Slobbers,

Thanks for the comment on our blog, we watched the weaves vid and think you did great for a first time, weaving is tough don’t worry!
You’re the only Dane we’ve ever seen who does freestyle so we think that’s very very cool!! Great routine.
Cinnamon did great too, what a cute little Beagle she is! We love how she barks.
~Mika and Wall-e
Herro Honey!
Wow you looked so amazing in that routine! Glamorous, sophisticated, talented and sooper focused!
That is good that Hsin-Yi could take some food in there even if you couldn’t eat it ’til the end.
Cinnamon is so cute and talented too! Maybe you gorgeous gals could think about doing a pas de deux together?
smooches,
Mr Darcy
Hi Honey, you are really a super star!!! Congratulations on the competition and also being on TV.
You look so gorgeous with the butterfly tie.
Nice to see Cinnamon again here.
Licks,
Adele, Vincent & Bella
Big applause to you, Honey and Hsin-Yi too! I am impressed time and time again!
Hi Honey, way to go! Wow, you are famous now!
Wow Honey Girl you’re the tops. That was a superb routine. The best ever. And what about Cinnamon -- some say Beagles as stupid -- Well that newspapaer article said it -- but you show’d them didn’t you. Just goes to show that those humans can get is so wrong. Cinnamon your’re a star in the making. Watch this space.
I watched both of your routines with envy and my very own human pointed out to me that that is the way true dancing dogs behave. You see, I was a bt distracted on Saturday and messed up my routine quite a lot but you can’t be on your dogone tops all the time can you?
Hope that we can meet again another time and next time -- I promise I won’t let the side down -- as long as they hide that duck that someone was quacking throughout my routine!!
You did great Honey!

Very well done to both you and your Mom!!
Thank you so much for sending me to watch that video!! I can’t believe I never thought to shape the behavior. I can be so slow sometimes lol. As soon as I have the lazy mutt jumping on command I think I’m going to work on that next. Did you ever post that video to your blog? I don’t know how I missed it. I thought I’d read all of your posts. If you haven’t you should, its a very nice video. Thanks again!
Oh Honey, you are so terribly talented. My person wishes she was as patient as yours is!
Fantastic job Honey! You were perfect!! Guess what, I did my weave move for a trick competition this weekend and got 2nd place but really Mom says I should have got first because the dog that won was supposed to ‘play dead’ but all he did was roll over….Mom says it was rigged!
Oh well, I still had fun!
Wow, what a cute picture below of you kissing that little human pup…precious!! It amde Mom smile lots.
Kisses,
Nala

We can’t believe that she did so well after only a day or so of practise….made us so proud of her, bless her….especially when she let out that special howl!
