Well, you know I’m a member of the ‘Tricky T-Day’ gang – this was a great idea started by Ludo the Sheltie for us doggies who like learning tricks: every week, on Tuesday or Thursday, we try to post about the tricks we are learning so that we can all enjoy watching what each other are doing.
Ludo also gives us a “tricks assignment” each month – last month’s assignment was “free-shaping with an object” (in my case, a.k.a. “breaking lots of buckets“) and this month’s assignment is to learn a “helpful trick”!
Hsin-Yi got very excited about this and we quickly tried to think of something helpful that I could learn to do. Everyone seemed to be doing lots of stuff with socks so I thought I’d like to try something different… I know! Maybe I could learn to draw the curtains!
So last night, just before my dinner, Hsin-Yi got out the clicker & some treats and we had a little shaping session…I thought I did very well, actually, for my first training session but Paul was NOT happy when he came home and saw what I did to the curtains!!!
Well, we will have to keep trying and maybe by the end of this month, I will be able to help Hsin-Yi by actually drawing the curtains shut when it gets dark outside!
* so sorry but Hsin-Yi has been really busy lately and so has not been able to help me visit and comment on many of my friends’s blogs! We will try to come round to see you all this weekend!

That was brilliant! Love, love, love your helpful trick! You are such a fast learner Honey.
Now if only you could help your mom wash those curtains
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

unbelievably quick progress. well doneHoney--the best video YET!!!
Honey, you are such a fast learner. Thanks for sharing your training video.
Oh Honey….you are such a brilliant Great Dane!! My mom is so jealous of you! She wonders why I can’t do all the great things that you do…she keeps trying with me and sometimes I catch on (slowly that is). You are such an inspiration.
But I do have to say…my mom is so happy that I don’t slobber as much as you do….Yuck on the curtains! Keep the tips coming.

OK Honey, I did not even need to watch the movie to know that might have not been the best idea for a new trick. But then the close-up of the curtain at the end clinched it.
Now that you know that trick I bet you will offer it up and there will be constant slobbers on those curtains. Hee hee.
Momma says that she is going to start locking pee-wee outside so that I can work on some inside clicker things. Last night she tried making one of us sit stay while the other did just a little thing, like shake hands, and it didn’t work out at all.
Slobbers,
Mango
P.S. Can you believe that stupid pee-wee weaves with no treats just because its fun? Jerk!
hello honey its dennis the vizsla dog oh hay cool i can draw the kurtins too!!! ummmm drawing meens tearing down and shredding rite??? ok bye
Wow Honey! You caught onto that really fast and what a very clever idea for a helpful trick. Hsin-Yi might need to teach you how to wipe your snozzle first though. hehehe!

Quick learning Honey but the poor curtains!!
Take care
Clive
Hi Honey!!
Pawesome job on your new trick! You are a very fast learner.
My mom spent her entire lunch hour today watching your clicker training videos and reading the article your mom wrote. She is getting excited to start this with me. I did a lot of obedience school from a young age and I am also a quick learner, but my parents kind of gave up teaching me new things, and now I am getting sloppy with the things I do know. I will try to get a video this weekend of what I can do, sort of a “before” video, then make some videos as I progress with clicker training and improve my skills!
Thanks for the inspiration!
xo
Well, that was a well-learned lesson, so quickly you caught on. Now has your trainer learned to wait to clean those curtains until after the next session?;-)
woos, the OP Pack
Hi Honey -- we’re blown away by how quickly you pick things up! Wowee -- fabulous! (BTW, can we just mention that we walked past a dog on the other side of the road this morning on our way back from our morning walk and Max just trotted on by without any reaction whatsoever!! I never thought it would happen -- wow! I’m sure he’ll have the odd relapse but by jove, he’s got it!!
) Schnauzer snuggles -- JD and Max.
Isn’t it amazing how fast dogs can learn through shaping?! Honey is such a good girl
You’re really smart, Honey. Us Sibes are better at non-tricks. And running. Snoozing. Stuff like that. Woo.
Luv,
Dave
SUCH a fast learner Honey! Now, how quickly can you learn to wash and dry curtains?
Oh Honey, I bow down to you as the master of all slobbers.
Wow! You really are a clever doggie. I’m super impressed with how fast you pick up on treats. I think I am going to have to help Mom a bit, she seems to have lost our clicker so we havent been working on much lately. I’ve tried to point this out to her by being extra naughty, but it hasnt sunk in. Its too bad I dont have opposable thumbs, otherwise I would start using the clicker on her!
wags, wiggles & slobbers

Hi Hsin-Yi and Honey! Sorry we haven’t been back to comment in a long time.
That’s a really cool trick. I’d be afraid to try it with Marge, though, because when she uses her mouth for things, she tends to be rough.
She can close cabinet doors, though -- I think she finds regular sized doors too heavy!
But the most helpful trick she has is going potty on command. Works wonders when I’ve got to leave the house quick.. very very helpful.
Very nice Honey! Bravo!
What a cool (and messy) helpful thing to do Honey! You are such a quick learner!
Good job, Honey! Nice slobber too hehehe…
OMD, Honey, you are such a quick learner! Gotsa say that I LOVE the slobber on the curtains… such a great decorative touch! BOL! I laughed so hard when I saw that (um) texturizing -- it made my day!
Awesome job, Honey! What a great “helpful” trick idea!! You learn so fast it’s amazing!
My mom wouldn’t be too happy with what you did to the curtain either, though!
Hey Honey! You are a very clever girl indeed! We have been away ALL week and have fallen behind on blogging and blog following! We were having trouble thinking up a trick for Ludo’s ‘Helpful’ assignment for sort of the same reason as your human pointed out at the end… Moose is known to leave his signature on most things and that is not always helpful! However, your most helpful curtain closing trick has inadvertently given us an idea! What If I can train my mooses to wipe his own slobber off in an acceptable place? Perhaps not the drapes but still.. you get the idea! Hee hee! Will have to think on this one some more. I have also been wanting to teach wiping paws for some time so maybe we will try that too.
Thanks for sharing your 1st session and we look forward to the next installment!
Moose + Dana
Oh no Honey. I can’t see the video. What happened to it??? Now I’ll never know what you did to the curtains. Yeesh. But I can imagine you did a very good job.
xox
Chef
what an incredible job you did -- it was incredible impressive how fast you learned that
we would have closed the curtain and pulled them off the wall at the same time -- us bullies arent that gentle -- so thats why we dont get taught helpful tricks -- the helpful trick for us be teaching us grace
Woodrow -- Sweetie -- MJ
Honey! You’re a very smart dog … you must take after your human mommy!
Whoa! Honey! You rock! I am extremely impressed! You make a very good helper! Love, Dino
