Just a perfect doggie day… (daily walk and training)

Today…

8:15am - My human is calling me to wake up…

8:30am – Breakfast: 2 raw chicken carcasses…YUM!

8:40am – Morning wee & poo

9:05am - Back to bed…try to sleep but can’t coz my stupid human is doing strange jumpings around the living room while watching a man doing the same thing in the TV box to very loud music…she calls this “aerobics”…

9:50am – Whew…peace finally. She’s gone to do the scary BATH thing to herself (can you believe humans happily do this every day??)

10:15am – Yay! My human has moved my beanbag bed into her study. She’s sitting down at her computer. Finally – can settle down for some decent sleep…zzzZZZzzzz…

11:30am – Turn over…zzzZZZzzz

12:45am – Open one eye – human has gone to the kitchen…bet she is getting herself some yummies. So unfair! Humans can help themselves to food whenever they want!

1:30pm – Human is back at the computer. I get up, stretch, turn around and make myself comfortable on the bed again…

2:20pm – Turn over…zzzZZZzzz

3:55pm – Turn over…zzzZZZzzz

4:30pm – Human is calling me again…saying something about a “walk”…huh? But I’m so comfortable…

4:45pm – Human is prodding me now with her foot…will just ignore her…maybe she will go away…

4:50pm – I can hear human by front door…sounds like she is putting on her shoes…she’s calling me again…uh-oh…sounds like she is getting grumpy…guess I’d better get up…(sigh)

4:55pm – Gooooooood stretch!

5:10pm – Am in the car – wonder which park my human is taking me to today?

5:20pm – Ooooh! Newmarket Park! I like it here!

5:25pm – Yay! Human has got the clicker out and I can smell treats! Am getting really excited.

5:30pm – Did really good Heelwork – human was very pleased with me…Now practising this ‘Stand’ and ‘Mat ‘command…hmmm, this is a bit tricky. I always want to walk forward when my human says “Stand” but I only get rewarded if I stay still…Mat is even harder. I have to drop straight down onto my stomach with my back legs tucked straight under me – I can’t Sit first. It’s different from my Down command where I can Sit first and then slowly lie down and put my legs to one side….my human taught me Mat as a separate command because I can do it faster than a Down and I need to be able to drop down quickly from running when I practise my “Instant Drop” exercise

I also practised this new thing I’m learning called a Sendaway – although I’m a little bit confused about it because my human wants me to just keep running away from her when she says “Away!”…but to what??

5:40 pm – Ohhhh….no more training! I was really keen to do more! Never mind – let’s explore the park and see what new pee-mail there is!

5:55pm – Wow! Check out these giant breed rocks…

6:04pm – Doing a nice big poo…

6:10pm – Human started playing one of my favourite games (“Ready, Set, GO!”) – I’m so excited & happy – I’m doing ZOOMIES!! :D

6:15pm – Getting pats from some friendly humans playing with big bouncing balls….

6:20pm – SLURP! Having a cool drink!

6:25pm – (sigh) Time to go home!

7:10pm – Is it dinner time yet?

7:15pm – Is it?

7:20pm – Humph! Human says I have to wait for a while after I’ve been running around otherwise I might get the scary sickness called bloat…I stand by the garden door – maybe if I wait outside, dinner might come faster?

7:30pm – YAY! Dinner time! Yum – raw BARF mixture (“Mighty Mix”) with steamed vegetables and some leftover corn soup from the humans…

7:45pm – Human brings me back in the house and wipes my mouth. Am still hungry. Go and ring the bell and ask to go out again. Human rolls her eyes and lets me back out…

7:48pm – YAY! Find the pig’s trotter I’d saved from my special birthday meal last week – I’d carefully put it in the corner of the garden and covered it with leaves…Mmmmm – it’s stinking nicely now…

7:55pm – Chomp! Chomp! Chomp!

8:03pm – Chomp! Chomp! Chomp!

8:10pm – Mmmm….that was good! Right, now for some water…

8:15pm – Human brings me back into the house and wipes my mouth (again) – she is grumbling a lot…says she is in the middle of eating her dinner…

8:20pm – (sigh of contentment) Stretch out by the heater…

8:35pm – Hmmm…floor feels a bit hard…better get on the bed…

8:40pm – zzzZZZzzz

9:15pm – Turn over…zzzZZZzzz…(wish the humans wouldn’t put the TV box so loud!)

10:20pm – Turn over…zzzZZZzzz

11:05pm – Human wakes me up, takes me into the garden and tells me to “Go be clean”  – (sigh) – guess it’s time for my last wee before bedtime…

11:10pm – Mmmm….nice to get back into bed…and it’s still warm!

12:05am – Whew! Finally! Humans have turned off the lights and are going to bed, leaving me in peace & quiet…Honestly! What does a dog have to do to get some sleep around here?!

Well, today was a typical day in my life…not too bad, eh? :P They don’t call it a dog’s life for nothing! ;) (Could do with a bit more sleep, though…)

And here’s a movie of my time in the park…you can watch me practising those training things I was telling you about and doing zoomies! I hope you enjoy it!

* By the way, a lot of people always think that Hsin-Yi must spend HOURS training me because of all my advanced dancing moves and ‘ coz I’m pretty well-behaved…but actually, she only does about 5-10mins before my daily walks, a couple of times a week (like you see in this video) - that’s all! Oh, sometimes she will do a few more clicker sessions at home – and of course, when we have a dance performance coming up, we do have to rehearse so we train more often…but otherwise, short, regular, frequent sessions are the best way for us doggies to learn! :) And of course, a lot of my training is incorporated into my everyday routine – like having to do Sit & Wait before I go out the front door or to get my food bowl, having to lie calmly to get cuddles – generally, having to earn things I want, like attention & cuddles & treats & food & access to places! :)

  • Sounds like my day for sure. You need to get enough rest.

Yuh, about five minutes is all the training I can stand. Then my head is ready to explode and I need a total time out. Momma always monitors when I eat so that I don’t get the bloat either. She says it is most important for full sized doggies such as us.

  • Good Morning Honey,

It sounds like you have a wonderful daily life full of fun activities and of course sleeping…you know that’s my favorite thing to do as well.

I loved seeing you in your park, it looks so lovely there and nobody was around just you and your mom during your fun day. It’s so gray and gloomy and rainy here lately and we are getting ready for winter. Yuck! I’m not a big fan of the winter season…although I do have my new coat…now I need some booties (or mom thinks I need them).

We follow alot of your mom’s training techniques and they really do work with me. We try to do short sessions daily and I’m getting much better at my “finishes”. Last night mom said I was amazing bouncing into the right spot which for me is hard cuz I don’t move that fast. I love watching you “Heel” you are totally amazing at heeling. We work on it but I’m not that good but I keep trying. I can’t even imagine “Matting” but that’s something else I’m sure my mom is now going to try to get me to do. AARGH!

I do wish she would get a video machine so you could see everything that I’ve learned from you and your mom. Well, gotta get back to sleep now as my mom is going to work for the day….ZZZZZZZ

  • nice job Honey. we don’t do any training. we are bad dogs. we can’t believe you stayed out of that pond. no way! kersplash!!!!

  • your day sounds fun. I do lots of sleepies too!

  • Hey there sweet Honey!
Sounds like you have a very interesting day catching up on the zzzzz’s! But it sure is balanced with some good training. You are lucky to have such a special human!
Oh, by the way – did you see that I made a GD friend on our Sunday walk for cancer? Now let me tell you…I WITNESSED one of his poops!!! Hey, talk about a mountain! I feel really sorry for Hsin-Yi when I think of the poop-scoop routine. Geesh, when OBI let off his load, we all nearly scattered… Eish, but it was funny! Mom was giggling like mad!
    Take care and lotsalicks

  • hello honey its dennis the vizsla dog oh hay wow that is a bizzy day all rite!!! owr days mostly konsist of sleeping and ummmm sleeping sum more but i do git to go to flyball and adjility a kuple of days a week!!! ok bye

  • What a nice daily routine you have! You like to sleep a lot more than I do though. I prefer to be awake and barking most of the day!

  • Honey, I enjoyed reading about “A day in the life of”! It sounds like you have a good life.

  • Wow what a day! Since my human is off work tomorrow I’ll have to get her to follow me around for the day with a notepad to record my daily doings. :) Hope you don’t mind if I copy your idea. I’m in desperate need for some blog fodder. My mom is spending waaaay too much time with the hoofed beasts on the farm. I hope its not raining tomorrow.

  • WOWZA! We got all tired just reading about your day! Do you get paid overtime for alla’ that activity?

Yes, lots of people think that it takes hours to train a dog. In fact, short periods – a little here and a little there – work much betters☺

  • Honey, we are exhausted just reading your day. We like to sleep a lot during the day too, but at night we get wild and love to do zoomies and deck wrestling. Your mom is very patient with you for all that training and you perform so well for her. We need to hire her to come here and train us.

    Woos, the OP Pack

  • Thor has a similar schedule. It’s very hard to be a giant dog and get enough sleep. These humans are so hard to train….

  • Hahahaha, Honey you are a riot!
When your human was trying to get you to wake up to go for a walk, it was just like when I have to try to get my Husband and human pups up in the morning. Maybe they have some Great Dane in them?
How clever of you to think of hiding away a special treat, and even better that it was so stinky. You must have been in heaven!

  • Hey that’s great! I order almost all my books through Amazon, so I’ll look for it. :)

Yeah I saw your video about the things you’re working on. I loved the part where you were working on mat. So cute the look you gave your mom.

I noticed you were using a target for the send away. I think the problem might be with the reward though, not the target. Do toys motivate her at all? I’m thinking if you send her away and throw a toy (after she’s already moving away) for her to chase that that would make her really excited about moving away from you. If you bring her back to you for a treat she won’t want to be away from you.

Or maybe you could send her away toward a target and tell her to sit or down before she reaches it (looks like she’s searching for the target and that’s why she slows down?), then walk to her to give her the treat (might really have to proof the send to target by putting a treat on the target, sending her to it and clicking just before she reaches it and eats the treat)? Eventually you should be able to put the target further and further away until you can completely get rid of it. By then she should be listening for the sit or down cue. I just think it’s a lot like stay and the reward needs to be brought to her. I’ve never actually trained this though, so its a guess based on my understanding of how they think. I hope it works or sparks an idea for you that will work. And I really hope what I said makes some sense lol. Good luck!!

  • Busy, busy day! Ours is a bit like that too.
We like your video. Sendaway seems hard. How far to go? Does Hsin Yi throw treats out there for you? That would be a good game.
Mat and stand are very good. You do it as well as those little dogs. They have it soooo easy!
That’s beautiful park you have too. Lucky girl.

*Our site keeps coming up with a warning about Malware. I have verified with google that everything is OK. I just wish they’d take the warning away. Just in case you were worried about visiting us.

  • You sure are a dog with one busy day! Thanks for sending maya all of those get well wishes. It truely has helped! Maya is now back to her normal self and is putting on her weight again. But she is still is on her meds.
Hope you have a great day

  • Wait a minute….. you don’t get up until after 0800?!?!? We’re up at least by 0530 here! Outside for potty trips, then breakfast at 0600! You need to come to Army of 4 Boot Camp!
    Ha roo!
    Play bows,

  • What a great day you had! And what a beautiful park! Are there any “unattractive” areas where you live? I don’t think so! One day in the future I’m going to visit your country! Some day!

  • I’d like to have days like that once in a while!
That park is beautiful! So impressed with your heeling and the standing and mats.
We’re going to work harder at doing some training daily with Darwin. I want a well behaved dane like you are!

  • Sounds like a perfect day; especially the sleeping part and the zoomies part! I’ve been able to do snow zoomies again!

  • Hi, Honey!
    Thanks for sharing your activities!
Sure it was a busy day!
    Kisses and hugs

  • Oh what a day!! Just my kind, says Bundy the Bundle of Joy, especially being with the humans all day! Such a treat! pfff all that turning over… you really need to relax in between… :o )

I just love the way you look – Bundy has a secret crush on you…

  • Whoa Honey! That’s a nice routine you have there! Your human is very dedicated to training you, puts my mommy to shame. I love to see your zoomies! Thanks for sharing your wonderful day with us! Love, Dino

  • You two are soo sweet together, it warms my heart! You are so tender and gentle with her, the love you have for her is evident!

  • Ohhhhh Honey, happy belated birthday to you!! We’re so sorry to miss your special post on time. We had no idea you turned six year old – you definitely do not look your age! What is your secret other than being busy as a good dancer and a cover girl? (Our mum actually wants to know your secret.)

Speaking of being a cover girl, we saw you and other friends’ shot in a book while reading Cookie and Cinnamon’s blog. You look stunning as usual! :)

And.. are you really saying this is your typical day? OMD, whatever your humans do for you sound great!!

Our Thanksgiving is much earlier than US version coz we’re up north and we suppose the harvest season kicks in much earlier. We wish we can celebrate and share Mr. Birdy together next time. :)

  • Hi Honey,

That sure does sound like the perfect day to us – our humans make the same comments about ‘a dogs life’!! You have to be careful to make sure you schedule in enough napping time and we’re glad to see that you’ve covered this.

Like you we don’t think it’s fair that humans get to eat whenever they want – it’s SOOO unfair!

We think we’ll try and have a day like yours tomorrow – we’ve synchronised our watches, he he he!!

Schnauzer snuggles – JD and Max.

  • Wow you have quite a schedule…a few more ZZzzzz’s would be nice after all your workouts…

You are SOME dog there Honey…I guess I better get with it..my mom/person doesn’t like to take me for walks cause I pause and you know all the interesting things along the way..I just can’t help myself.

maybe some cookies and a clicker might help??

Okay…so I’ll try to behave like you…My Inspiration!!

    Paws Up!
Gus… oh and my mom/person is going to post those yummy Granola bars..yep I get bites!!! Can you have Wheat Germ?

  • I love your “day in the life” idea. I’ll have to do that with Misty & Oreo soon! I’d have to do one separately for each dog though, since they have different ideas of what a perfect doggie day is!

Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your day Honey :) Your humans stay up much later than me! No wonder you need to sleep so much during the day!

  • Funny–your day sounds a lot like ours, but our mommee doesn’t stay with us all day.

We love seeing you on the video!
    Wuv,
    Gus and Waldo

    Puppy kisses
