Slippery Dancing Disaster!

Sorry for not blogging for ages – my human, Hsin-Yi, got a sickness called ‘RSI‘ (Repetitive Strain Injury) which comes from using the computer machine too much and her arms and shoulders were hurting her lots and she couldn’t move them properly… so she was trying to take a rest from from the computer.

HY+Honey-study-deskIt is a little bit better now but still hurting her, so she is going to be very careful and not do a lot of typing unless it is really urgent  (so I’m afraid I won’t be able to comment much on your blogs for a while – sorry! – but I will still be reading your posts! :) )

Well, I’ve been doing loads of things in the past couple of weeks which I haven’t had a chance to tell you about yet – but first, I just have to tell you about what happened to me last weekend. Oh, I had the most awful, scary, embarrassing dancing disaster!

Last weekend, me and Hsin-Yi got a last-minute call asking us to perform at a human dance party (Ceroc Dance Party in aid of October Breast Awareness Month), together with 3 other of my dog-dancing friends and their humans. The party was in a big room in a human school and there were balloons everywhere and loud music and lots of humans wearing funny, shiny clothes and strange pink fur on their heads…

Candyman-routine2

I was quite excited about doing some dancing in this fun new place and Hsin-Yi had promised me a big yummy treat if I did my routine well…

…but then when I went in the big room, a horrible thing happened! The floor went all funny and started moving away under me and my paws kept slipping and sliding everywhere and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t walk properly, never mind try to Spin or do other fancy dance moves!

HY+Honey-Ceroc2

Oh it was awful! And then I got really scared and kept staring at the floor, trying to make it stop sliding away from under me…and Hsin-Yi kept calling me, trying to get me to do my dance moves but I just couldn’t! :(

I was so glad when our music finished and I could struggle off that scary floor. The other doggies seemed to do a lot better than me, although they were slipping and sliding too…

My friend, Brody, who is probably the next biggest dog after me, was really amazing ‘coz he was still trying to do his jumps even though he was skidding everywhere.

I felt so embarrassed but Hsin-Yi said it was OK; it wasn’t really my fault – a shiny wooden floor is bad enough but they had even put some special powder on it to make it extra slippery so that the humans could spin and dance more easily in their shoes… and it was extra hard for me because I’m much bigger and probably weigh at least 30kg more than all the other doggies so there’s a lot more of me to slip and slide around! :-?

Anyway, Hsin-Yi still gave me my yummy treat at the end and said she was very proud of me for still trying to do a few of my dance moves, even though I was really scared and couldn’t stand properly…

Well, here’s a video of our performances, if you want to see how awful I was!

For any of you who haven’t seen it, this is what my routine ought to have looked like! :P

  • Oh, Honey! I think you did marvellously on that slippery floor – I could see you were slipping even when you were sitting down!

I don’t like slippery floors, they make me get all upset and then I slip even more. I even avoid humanhole covers in the street.

I think you are very brave and professional for completing your routine under such trying circumstances.

And I hope Hsin-Yi’s arm sickness gets better soon – you them to get pats and huggles!

  • Hi Honey & Hsin-Yi,

Oh my goodness Honey…I felt for you during your dance routine…what were those humans thinking putting that slippery stuff on an already slippery floor!!! I was so glad that nobody got hurt during the dance routines. You know us big dogs walk on stilts and we have to be very careful that we don’t hurt ourselves.

Hsin-Yi – hope you are feeling better soon.

  • Poor Honey! Don’t worry too much. The crowd laughed at all the dogs, not just you. It wasn’t your fault the silly humans wouldn’t roll out a carpet for you or something. How do they expect us doggies to get a grip on the floor?? Don’t they realize that’s why they wear shoes?? Silly humans. You gave it a really great try.

  • Wow Honey what a hard thing to do! We used to have wood floors in our old house and I hated them! I couldn’t even do a sit properly unless I went to sit on a rug first. Mom insisted we have carpets in the new house and they are much better. You did a great job for how hard it was. We are very proud of you!

Tell your mom we hope she feels better soon and not to worry about commenting on our bloggies. We know she is reading them.

  • Poor Honey! I am so glad that you didn’t hurt yourself on that slippery floor. I don’t thing dogs are meant to dance on shiny wood floors. I hope that Hsin-yi is feeling better and will be able to work on the computer soon.

    Your friend,
    Niamh

  • Honey! I could almost not bear to watch! I cannot believe you even were able to move at all. How scary. Momma, on the other hand, was laughing! Can you imagine? She says it was not a mean laugh because she saw how hard you tried, but I am not so sure.

Your Hsin-Yi must really be suffering not being able to type too well. I hope that she can be cured soon.

This will cheer her up. It is a very short movie of my latest move which I totally learned from YOU!

  • Oh, how embarrassing. But, Honey, it wasn’t your fault the floor was slippery.

We hope your human gets better soon. Perhaps one of those under the desk pullout trays for the keyboard and mouse would help. Jan has a lot of pain when she types with the keyboard on top of the desk too.

  • Oh you poor pup!!! Despite that slippery floor, I think you were magnificent and very smart to be so careful. Very scary, but so obedient, dear Honey! Mom – get better!
    Hugs xo

  • Poor Honey…the things your human makes you do. You handled it very well :) Plus, it was for a good cause. Why didn’t your human put some running shoes on your feet? That might have helped.

Hope your human feels better soon.

  • Woo, Honey! I think you did GREAT! I woulda been scared to TRY! I don’t like doing the slippy-slip!
You looked really beautiful out there – and we’re all proud of you!
    Luv,
    DAve
PS: I hope Hsin-Yi’s RSI gets better!!!

  • Oh hope Hsin-Yi feels a lot better soon. Sounds very painful.

I think you did great regardless of the slippery floor!

  • Poor Honey Dog! We hate slippery floors since we know lots of joint (esp knee) injuries happen that way and it can look kinda silly to see a pup sliding around but knee injuries are no laughing matter so we are glad you (and your momma) did not push too far. The way you slunk off the floor we could tell you kept your game face on during the routine like a real pro that you are and that is impressive! The smaller doggies were stuggling too though so that floor must have been like an ice rink! Still you did a great job for a great cause and who could not be entertained watching you do just about anything!
Hope your human feels better soon!

  • Hey Honey,

My mom says that the bestest gift you can ever give a friend is: JUST BEING THERE!
So, I think you gave the bestest thing anyway. Don’t worry, these things happen… you gave your best.!

I don’t know if it would work, but TOFFEE’s mom use to do highland dancing and they would put ‘coca cola’ on their feet before going on those slippery floors. I wonder if that would work for a dog.

Anyway, do send your mom our love. Hope she gets better real soon. Nothing worse that muscle tension like that.

    Lots of licks

  • Tank woo fur taking the time to put all this together fur us – given your assistant’s RSI -

WOW! That would have been furry skhary to be slippin’ like that -

I’ll have to tell Mom not to trim my paw hairs so I khan have more trakhtion!

  • OMD, honey, that looked scary! My momster was cringing watching Brody cause it looked like he might hurt himself on the slippery floor! Maybe you need some little boots that have rubber on the bottom so that you don’t ever ever have to go through that traumatizing experience again… I think you did PAWSOME in those conditions!

  • Hi Honey well hey you did better on that slippry floor then I would have did!! I thinks you are purty brave to even try. That wuz shore silly of them peeple to thinks that us dawgs can do crazy triks on a slippry floor.

    Yer pal Dozer

  • Oh, Honey, trying to dance on a slippery floor is just wrong on so many levels! You are a good girl to keep trying. And tell your human to rest her arm, because with big paws like ours, typing doesn’t go very well.

    Hugs from Thor the Mastiff

  • Honey, you are a real trooper for even trying. We applaud you for sticking it out and we still think you looked grand out there with your partner.

And we hope Hsin-Yi is feeling better soon.

    Woos, the OP Pack

  • Honey,
Boy that floor sure was slippery. You did a very good job not to fall down! I’ve been on a slippery floor like that before too! They should not make floors that slippery it is dangerous for doggies!

    woof – Tucker

  • well done Honey! you did so well!
I hope Hsin-Yi feels better soon.
    Hugs,

  • There is definitely such a thing as a floor that’s TOO slippery for dancing! Tell them to lay off the powder next time!

  • Oh poor Honey, but you didn’t do too badly! Even in that condition, you did finish the routine. You really deserved the yummy treat as promised and that pet on the shoulder.

  • Poor Honey. I remember how slippery those floors are from when I was a little girl and we used to go dancing. You poor thing. I can’t believe the silly humans didn’t think about poor doggy paws! I think you did marvellously anyway, and you were really good to go along and support a good cause and try your hardest.
Poor Hsin-Yi, hope her sore arms and shoulders from the computer doesn’t mean she can’t still give you plenty of pats and hugs.
    Hope it is better soon.

  • Honey!

Oh no, those floors must be horrible! I’m really sorry about your bad performance, although I must say I still thought it was cute! I watched your other video of what your performance is supposed to be like, and it was simply amazing! I hope you have better luck next time, with no slippery floor!

I hope you have a GRRRReat day ahead,

    Sparky

  • Hi, Honey!
Sure it was not your fault. Working on that slippery floor sure is not easy!
I hope Hsin-Yi feels better soon!
    Take care

  • Oh, we are sorry to hear about the disaster you experienced at the Ceroc dance party. What we don’t understand is some of the audience was laughing, watching the routines of yours and your friends’! What was so funny? All we could see, watching the video, was your dancing team’s effort to do the best on the slippery floor. Nothing funny…

We are also sorry to hear about your human’s RSI. We hope her hands will be better soon. But, please tell her not to do too much typing for the time being.

  • Good effort all round but I have to say I wish the audience hadn’t laughed at all the slipping. I suppose they might not know better if they weren’t doggy people but I was actually cringing watching Brody doing his jumps, I was sure he was going to hurt himself. If you get asked back to that venue just make sure they give you a non-slip area!

    Hope you’re typing-fit soon, Hsin-Yi.

  • Don’t worry about it Honey…we know you tried your best. You’re still Perfect in my eyes! Please tell your Mom I hope she feels better soon.
    your cat pal,
    Bruce:)

  • poor honey girl and dancing doggie buddies – happy you are all okay and didnt get hurt on that floor – it made our mommy very nervous watching

we have special boots for floors like that – if your mommy wants she can send you a pair in honey girl size

  • Oh Honey sweetgirl. You did the best job under the circumstances. It must have been so difficult especially with your long legs. But you were totally professional and finished your routine even though you were scared. Bravo! Clap! Clap! Clap!

We hope Hsin-Yi feels better soon. Maybe she can buy one of the wrist rests so her arm is at a more normal angle when she types.

    Hugs to both of you.

  • Hi Honey,

We’re so sorry to hear about Hsin-Yi suffering from RSI, that’s horrible, we hope she does really take it easy and doesn’t try to sneak in typing or some such. It must be so difficult, what with her being a writer and all – we hope she takes care of herself.

And poor you too – how dreadful for you being expected to dance on what turned out to almost be an ice-rink! We think you did amazingly in very difficult circumstances and you should be very proud of that. All the doggies did – but you especially!

Big schnauzer snuggles – JD and Max.

  • Hi Honey

I think you did a fabulous job, that floor was really scary for you. As for me I didn’t even see your performance as I hate thunder and I freaked out when the microphones all went thundery at the beginning so I had to go outside to take “ten deep breaths”. When I was dancing I was looking for the thunder monster and we slid a bit too so had to make bits up. But it was lotsa fun anyway. At least our humans know next time to come prepared. So a bottle of coca cola for our feet or some dancers resin. That should stick us all to the floor.

    Moss the Irish Sibe-bord

  • Oh Honey! You still did so well! We are very glad none of you were hurt on that slippery floor!!

  • Oh HOney, I feel for you….that floor was dreadful!!! Silly people making doggies dance on a floor like that! I would have been doing the same thing. You still were a star out there though!

    Hope Hsin-Yi is feeling better!

    Nala

  • Honey! YOu did superb given you weren’t provided proper dance floor needs! But I have to say, those sub titles made me giggle! I think you were brave stay on stage and finish your routine. I think i would have just stopped and hugged you right there. You’re the best!

thanks for sharing. it’s so fun watching these vids!
