I'm a water-baby now!

Thanks for all your nice comments about my sickies – I am back to my normal self now and getting my usual 18hrs sleep a day…! :P

Some of you may remember that a while back, I posted a video of my traumatic 1st swimming lesson (which a lot of people seemed to find very funny although I’m sure I don’t know why! …)

Well! I am proud to tell you that I am officially a water-baby now! Yup! At my 3rd lesson in the Hydrotherapy Pool at Club K9 a few weeks ago, I just suddenly decided that the water wasn’t so scary anymore!

Watch me goooooooo! :D

You did a great job, Honey! (And now that it's almost summer in NZ, maybe Paul can get a bit of a suntan. Your golden coat made him look like a glass of milk by contrast.) I've swum in a pool like that (not quite as big) with a lifejacket on, but I'm still happier when I can touch the bottom!

  11. Great job!
    Looks like you had fun:)

  12. Woo, Honey! You are SO BRAVE! And so athletic. I loved watching you swim -- you did GREAT! That must be quite a work-out, too! Do you get to have a nice long nap afterwards? And woo, it looked like that pretty blond lady who works there was giving you a bit of a massage at the end? That's REALLY nice!
We're so glad you're feeling better!
    Luv,
    Dave

  13. Bundy says:

Way to go HONEY!!! lookin' good!! and it looks like a lot of fun… but I don't think I would dare… I sort of think water is for drinking -- period!

  14. Riley says:

    Hi Honey,

You are all set for the New Zealand summer now. I look forward to seeing what you do next time you go to the beach!

    Luv,
    Riley

  15. Kasha the Harlequin says:

Oh my goodness Honey…you had me from ear to ear as I watched you go swimming this time!! You've turned into such a "retriever dane". I can't get Kasha in a lake or a pool but she does love the shower!

I loved the music that Hsin-Yi picked out to go with the video as well. How long do you actually get to use the pool? I wish we had a place like that over here. You look so happy and I'm glad you are feeling better.

  16. Pipa says:

Oh my! Look at Honey! She's like a Phelps-female-Dane! :)

We hope that you have a great day.

  18. Wow Honey! Good job, look at you go! How funny! Darwin likes the water (willingly gets in the tub at bath time) but so far isn't a swimmer. We need to find a place in the summer with water warm enough for us (her parents) to get into for her to maybe swim to us.

  19. its great that you fell all honey gaine!!! :D
whooo you swim great! Sanne makes us swim to in the summer!!!!!!!

Oh Honey, we are so proud of you -- it looks like you actually like the water now. And it has to be such great exercise for you. We love how there is no coercing you in, everyone just lets you move at your own pace. Congrats, Honey.

  28. Happy says:

Way to go, Honey! You're going to be a regular water dog in no time at all.

  29. Amber says:

OH dear, I just wrote you this big long letter and then the computer went all funny! ARRRGH! Since it is Mom's bedtime, I will try to keep this one short and hope it goes through. First, glad you are feeling better. Second, great costumes you and Hsin-Yi had on. Third, I am SO impressed with your water skills and you give me hope. Fourth, Mom had a rotten day with her 4th graders but when she returned home and there was the copy of Dogs Today she had ordered her frown turned into a big smile! I am so honored to have been featured Honey…I guess you are used to being in the public eye but it is very unique for me. :) I will try not to let it go to my head but I have already scheduled an autograph signing with my closest furiends later in the week! BOL! :)

    Kisses,
    Nala

  30. You've made it! That's great!! I, Cinnamon, wonder if I can overcome the fear of water too. I know I can swim, but I am still scared of the water.

  31. Wild Dingo says:

OM Dawgs, this video made me smile the entire time. Honey has an "apple bottom" like Loki and i just loved seeing it float in the water! so cute.

then i watched the first video. OM DAWG! I laughed so hard. the captions were spectacular.

sorry to hear you had the sickies…Loki had a similar one last year…a "bug"… but all his tests were normal and it was just something that "went around". it took a week for him to feel better.

btw: how can you sleep 18 hours when you're doing all that dancing and swimming? I don't believe you Honey… I think you are telling a fib! ;)

  32. Glad to hear your feeling better now Honey! :) I was sickie yesterday as well -- But i ate something gross from under the deck, but I'm better today!

    See you tomorrow!

    Flappy Ears,
    Lexi

  33. Tofu says:

  34. Oh you do such a great job swimming and you even are smiling!! Love how you use your tail to steer!!!

  35. JD and Max says:

Woo-hoo Honey -- you looked like you were really enjoying yourself there. He he -- you left Paul standing, you're a pro now! We loved this video, you are so amazing.

We missed that post about you being sickie -- we're so glad you're feeling better now. We loved how you got to sniff around the garden at night when you were feeling a bit better whilst Hsin-Yi was waiting for you and grumbling, he he he! Poor JD has a very sensitive stomach and throws up about twice a month. Max on the other hand has a sturdy constitution -- he could eat a super-hot curry and still be fine! It's funny how they're so different….

  36. Mason Dixie says:

Awesome job Honey!!! maybe soon you will be dock diving like me!!! Oh and thanks for all the great advise. Mason did wonderful at last Sunday's class. I bought a clicker and she seems to respond to that better. She was even used for a demonstration!!! I am very proud of her. =)

  37. Hehehehe yep I'm a busy, busy dog. I don't like to be left out when someone goes outside and my Mom much prefers the outdoors to the indoors (much to the detriment of mundane household chores), so I go with her. :) I think the fact that I sleep ten to twelve hours a night makes up for me being awake a lot during the day. My Dad gets up really early, even on his days off, but Mom and I sleep in. Mom likes to read books so even though she goes to bed early doesn't mean she goes to sleep. She usually falls asleep between ten thirty to eleven thirty. She doesn't sleep as much as she used to since getting her Thyroid medicine. That doesn't help me out because I'm a late riser. :)

  38. You did great Honey!! We love watching you swim, cause you know we never will!

  39. parlance says:

Honey, that was great to see. I felt happy while I was watching. (that's one of the reasons I like dog blogs -- I usually feel uplifted by them.)

I particularly like the moment where you could have gone up the ramp but decided to go back in to the water.

I've just looked back at your post about Rainy Day Games, as you suggested in your comment on my blog, and I realise I didn't focus on your games that day because I was worrying that you could do well in the upcoming event where you thought it would be wet.

I'm off to the op-shop right now to look for an old muffin- tray.

  40. Teal'c says:

    Hi Honey!
I found you blog via Parlances blog and I really enjoyed watching your attempts. Especially the first one from the older post! You are funny!!! Water is cool I love it! But I guess it is more difficult to swim for someone as huge as you are?! I hope I used the right word here -- no offence! You are a gorgeous girl. I'm one of those little ones you refer to in your about page but at least I'm not fluffy!!! ;)
    Cheers Teal'c

  41. Oskar says:

Oh Honey, you were awesome in that water! It made my mom person feel really happy to see you in that water & I think you're terribly brave!

I don't really like the water, even though I'm supposed to be a water dog, but my mom person says that maybe there is hope, now that I've seen how fun it can be. I don't know, but it's getting to be winter here, so I won't have to try it for awhile.

My mom person says she loved your peoples accents, whatever that means. I'm just glad that you're feeling better and had a good time swimming.

    Hugs,

    Oskar

  42. Brownie says:

holy moly, Honey… are you sure you're not part lab?!

  44. sprinkles says:

Glad you're feeling better, Honey! Looks like you're having fun in that pool. I've never learned to swim and my dogs don't know how to either.

Thanks for stopping by my blog the other day and leaving such a sweet comment.

  45. MAX DOG says:

    Dear Honey
Please accept our apologies for giving you a fright yesterday. We got so wrapped up in the fun of all those stuffies and the resultant photograph that we erred on the heading. (We later changed it, but some people had already got a fright thinking that Max was really missing). So we are sorry for scaring you! Please forgive us?

Oh, Honey, I'm so proud of you! Maybe my human should send me to swimming lessons, too, you look so good swimming.

I'm going on a beach excursion with my doggy daycare tomorrow… I think I will just paddle -- I like paddling!

By the way, the pointy things in the first picture of my last post are the masts on boats -- you can see them if you click on the picture to make it bigger.

  47. behr rake says:

Woo Hoo!!! Way to go Honey!! How did you find a bath tub big enough to run without touching bottom like that? I've never seen one of those.

So, now that you're a pro in the water, when are you going to start your dock diving career? :)

    Behr Behr :)

  48. Samantha says:

Honey -- is there nothing you can't do!!!!! What a pawesome swimmer you ARE -- loved the video -- and it looks like you had a great time!
    Hugs xo

  49. You are a real water doggie now Honey, that looks really fun in there.
