My Rachael Hale photos…

Some of you may remember that last year back in Auckland, I was very excited to be asked by Rachael Hale to model for her latest book, Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats. Rachael is a Camera Human who is famous all over the world for her beautiful portraits of animals so it was a big honour to model for her! :D

One of the reasons Rachael asked me was because she needed a shot of a big doggie pushing a supermarket trolley and she had heard about me and my dancing & tricks, so she thought I would be perfect to model for that!

After that, Rachael needed a group of doggies that were well-trained enough to stay and pose together for the camera – so it was lucky I had so many doggie friends, most who do lots of trainings with their humans too, and we had a great time together at the photoshoot! :P

(If you want to relive our day – including a video which shows how Rachael works with us to get her amazing shots – check out my old post: http://bighoneydog.com/2nd-photoshoot-rachaelhale/ )

I also helped tell Rachael about some of my other doggie friends who were perfect for some of the other pictures she needed in the book. I think half the doggies in the book are my friends! Hee! Hee! :P  Well, we did know a lot of doggie people around Auckland ‘coz we did so many different doggie things and went to so many different parks and beaches and other places!

The book came out at the end of last year and Rachael sent us a copy! :) But my human, Hsin-Yi, was so busy with all the packing for our Big Move here to Brisbane that she forgot to help me post about it on my blog (and she packed the book away!). Well, she has just found the book in one of our boxes so now I can finally show you my pictures!

My favourite is the group photo – I think we all look so different but all so beautiful in our different ways… (you can click on it to biggify to see it properly!) My human says it is an amazing picture because we are all sitting nicely next to each other and looking at the camera at the same time – anybody who has tried to take a group photo of doggies will know how hard that is! ;) Well, I can tell you - we all had very good Stay commands!

From L to R: Me, my boyfriend Ombre, Finnigan the Shelti, Kira the German Shepherd, Kaya the Golden Retriever, Bodie the Border Terrier and George the Bernese Mountain Dog.

And here is the photo of me pushing the supermarket trolley. My head looks awfully big & weird, doesn’t it?!

It was actually a very difficult shot to do – we had to spend all afternoon!

...

Although Hsin-Yi had taken me to a supermarket carpark the week before so I could practise on the trolleys there, it was very different in the studio with the slippery paper on the floor and the trolley kept moving and my paws kept slipping on the plastic bar…and I had to look at the camera at the same time! Plus Hsin-Yi couldn’t stand next to me to help me. I got very stressy…but I was a true professional and I did it in the end! :P

Here is another photo in the book which I posed for: it is to show doggies saying hello to each other:

And then Rachael did some extra portrait shots of each of us doggies as a “thank you” for us. Here is mine – (which some of you may have noticed is now on my Homepage!) – don’t I look sweet and pretty – and sort of confused and bewildered, which my humans say is exactly like me! Hee! Hee! :P They say Rachael always captures a doggie’s personality perfectly.

.

I also got a special photo with my boyfriend, Ombre…this was supposed to be just for us but Rachael thought it was so cute that she decided to put it in the book too!

.

And then as an extra thank you for me & Hsin-Yi finding all our doggie friends to be models in her book, Rachael took some extra pictures of just me with Hsin-Yi.

By the way, you may be wondering why I look so serious in the photos…that’s just because of my big, droopy jowls and wrinkly forehead – it always makes me look very serious! Hee! Hee! :P Unless I’m panting and “smiling”, of course – but here I was very relaxed (and not hot!), so I wasn’t panting (you can see in the trolley photo that I was panting a bit ‘coz I was feeling a bit stressy! ;) )

Well, I hope you enjoyed my Rachael Hale photos and if anyone is interested in the book (it’s a great book with really funny words and beautiful photos!), you can get it here:

Oh Honey…I did see the book a while back in the store and have been thinking about buying it just cause you are in it! :) That one of you pushing the shopping cart is so funny…love the biscuits in the cart. ;) Rachael did such a fantastic job with the photographs and especially with the ones of you and Hsin-Yi…your bond is very strong indeed. Good thing she is quick and good too and good thing you doggies are all so well trained because those group shots are horribly hard to get. I don't blame her for putting the one of you and Ombre in the book…it's a classic! ;)

    Kisses,
    Nala

Great photos Honey! It's amazing how Rachael was able to get that group photo. I've just ordered the book from Amazon. Can't wait to get it :)

  9. We have a funny story about that book.
I was with Mom and Grandmom at Barnes and Noble (the bookstore/nap for me store) and Mom saw the book. She opened it up and got excited because you were in there, so she turned around to tell grandmom that one of my friends is famous in the book! Apparently she was a bit loud because people gave her some funny looks.
    Those pics are wonderful!

  13. janice says:

just gorgeous photos. hsin-yi and honey--you are both a photographer's dream come true!

  14. Frisky says:

You are very nice, Honey! I want to have friend like you. While the political situation is unpleasant in Bangkok, I am happy and relaxed everytime when I read you blog here. Thanks for sharing wonderful moments in your life.

  15. Mango says:

Yuh, us big dogs are most expressive, but gravity makes it hard to smile unless we are running with floppy jowls. I know you are smiling, though.

Beautiful photos and most impressive pushing that cart. Sheesh! I would have been terrified. But not you.

Hey! I had my first training adventure today. We took your advice and focused on being calm and not worrying about people passing by. Momma claims one guy did go by on a bicycle but I totally missed it what with being pointed in the wrong directions.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

  16. MrsDesperate says:

Oh I love your new-look blog and your photos in the book. You and Hsin-Yi are so gorgeous and clever. I will certainly snap up a copy of the book, and I hope Honey, you will honour me with your autograph. Surely a muddy paw might suffice?

  17. sprinkles says:

I love these pictures! You and your mom are both beautiful!

I've heard of this book but I'm not sure from where. Maybe it was from you. It seems like I might have seen it at Borders though but I didn't actually pick it up and look at it as I was in a hurry.

I love that picture of you and Ombre, I can see why it was used in the book!

  18. Dana says:

Every photo is more awesome than the last! I love your expression and think you just look focused and a bit curious! I used to think panting meant smiling but now I know panting can man any kind of good or bad excitement and think that mood is better gauged by the eyes and ears and tail and best interpreted by the doggie's human! You are lucky to have such wonderful photos of your self. I hope to have some made of my Moose one day but it is expensive I think!

  19. Woo, Honey! Those are such great photos! My favorites are the ones of you and Hsin-Yi! The hugging ones are so nice … but I especially like the one where you're holding paws/hands. Oh, how I love to do that! Well, I love to get hugs, too.
Congratulations -- and thanks for sharing!!!
    Luv,
    DAve

  35. JD and Max says:

Hi Honey -- we adored all these photos! It was great to see Ombre again and our little chests swelled with pride that a gorgeous leggy blonde like you has a soft spot for shorter, hairer doggies! The photos of you and Hsin-Yi are so beautiful.

Schnauzer snuggles -- JD and Max.

  36. Teal'c says:

Hiya Honey! You look pawsome in those pictures and you hooman too! Those are really nice pictures -- even my mum likes them and I think it is really hard for a photographer to say another photographers work is great ;)
    Slobbers Teal'c

  37. Those pictures turned out so awesome!!!!! I really love the pictures of you and Hsin-Yi together. Wow! I wish I knew someone who could take pictures of me, Storm and mom, but the last time she did the with Storm the guy knew nothing about dogs and sent her the ugliest picture he took lol. He made Storm sit on a table (she's afraid of heights) so she was hunched over, panting with her ears back. Oh well.

Mom said she's gonna check out the book.

  38. Jackal says:

Oops that was supposed to be posted by Jackal lol.
