Back in August, it was my humans’ wedding anniversary…it had been 15 years since they said “I do”!

So they decided to do something to celebrate but Hsin-Yi didn’t want to do all the usual boring old stuff, like go out to a restaurant and eat expensive yummies. Instead, she said that they should do some activity together, something that would give them a keepsake to remember the special occasion…
…and she found the perfect place: a paint-your-own ceramic studio! It’s called Colour Me Mine and you can go there and paint all sorts of different things, like mugs or bowls or plates or even vases and little statues. They are all white to start with and then you can paint them in whatever colours you like. The studio provides all the paints and stuff for you – and clean up all the mess afterwards!
(and it doesn’t cost a lot of money paper either…)

Paul had been wanting to get a ceramic water bowl for Muesli for a while – so when he saw a cute little bowl in the shape of a kitty, he decided that was the perfect project!

Hsin-Yi decided to pick a plain, blank bowl because she wanted to paint her own picture on it…she had this picture in her head of two cute owls cuddling together, framed by a deep blue rim, and she wanted to see if she could re-create that on the bowl…

My humans had a wonderful 2 hrs painting away – they said it was really soothing, almost like “therapy” because they were just thinking about colours and shapes and things and all the stressy stuff in their heads just floated away…and it was lovely to do something “creative” and use parts of their brains that they don’t get to use every day…
Finally, they finished painting and the two bowls were ready to go into the special oven, called a kiln, to be fired and glazed. And a week later, they were ready to be picked up…Ta Da!

What do you think?
Paul was so proud of his kitty bowl – he had never really painted anything in his life before and this was so much nicer than buying something in a shop, no matter how posh – this was something he had created himself!
And Muesli approved too!
She came over to inspect her new water bowl at once and after she sniffed it carefully all over, she decided she liked it and happily lapped her water out of it.
Still, it was lucky that it was Muesli and not my first kitty sister, Lemon. Muesli may be a pest sometimes but she is a very obliging kitty when it comes to stuff that’s bought for her. She has played with every toy that my humans got her, slept in every bed, snuggled in every blanket and used every thing they ever bought her…
…whereas Lemon never used ANYthing my humans bought her, no matter how much money paper they had spent. It used to drive them crazy that she would ignore the expensive toy/kitty tunnel/catnip blanket/plush bed that they bought her – and play with the paper bag it came in instead!!
The best thing you could get Lemon was an empty, cadboard box.
And Lemon never used to drink out of her water bowl – no matter how many different kinds of bowls my humans tried – she always only drank out of rain puddles in the garden.
Hsin-Yi was really surprised and pleased with her bowl too, ‘coz it looked exactly like how she had imagined it in her head. She hadn’t been sure if she could paint it but it came out really well! The studio owner was really impressed too that Hsin-Yi had just made that out of a picture in her head!
Now, my humans had a lovely memento of their 15th wedding anniversary!
Well, when I saw the cool things that my humans had made, I decided that I wanted to do painting too!
I’ll bet you’re thinking “But doggies can’t paint!”
Well, Hsin-Yi always says that if you believe in yourself and you try hard enough – you can do anything.
So, a couple of weeks later, Hsin-Yi took me to the studio one day! It was very exciting arriving there – and I even had a special welcome from the studio owner, Eric, himself – who was very excited to meet me. I was the first Great Dane he had ever had in his studio!
Eric showed me all the different things I could paint…

…but I already knew what I wanted to do: Hsin-Yi had told me about these tiles where human pups had put their handprints – well, I thought I could do a pawprint one!

(photo courtesy of Colour Me Mine)
Hmm…so which colours should I use? I quite like this blue…

After I chose the colours I wanted, Eric helped pour them out for me…

…then Hsin-Yi helped me prepare my tile. I told her I wanted a pretty blue background and Hsin-Yi did it with a sponge, so that it would have interesting “texture”…

Now it was my turn!

Hsin-Yi helped sponge some of the paint onto my pawpads… (don’t worry, the paint is water-soluble, non-toxic and lead-free. And Eric had baby wipes ready to clean it off my paw…)

…and then I got painting!
Look, this is my Deep Artistic Face…am concentrating on creating my masterpiece…

(well, OK, I might have had a bit of help…just a bit…)

There! Finished! I made two because Eric asked if I could make one for him too, to keep in the studio as a sample to show other people, who might like their doggies to get in touch with their artistic side too…

Whew! Being an artistic doggie is exhausting! Must be all that creative energy and stuff…I decided to have a little nap while Hsin-Yi put the finishing touches to my tile…

(photo courtesy of Colour Me Mine)
Finally, it was done!

We left it with Eric to be fired & glazed…and then a week or so later, Hsin-Yi went to pick up my masterpiece!
Ta-Da!

What do you think of my Paw Art?
Hsin-Yi says it will be a lovely thing to remember me by, when I go to the Rainbow Bridge one day.
So who says doggies can’t paint?
Oh my DOG Honey! That’s so beautiful!
I can only imagine how exhausting being artistic is.
Chingmy Kisses!
Well done Honey, painting is a fun activity !! We tried pawprint once with some flour the humans left unsupervised… But they didn’t seems to like it… I guess they just don’t like art !
Muesly’s water bol is so cute and Hsin-Yi is very tallented, this 2 owl are just adorable !!
Woos of love.

Oh, we forgot : HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO PAUL & HSIN-YI !!!
All the art work is great! I can’t believe they let you in the ceramic store. That Eric is very nice to let you make your tile.

One if the things that mom regrets most in life is that sheI never got a print of Andy’s paw. She would have it tatooed on her right now if she had. This is definately something to cherish. Very cool!
We love your pawprint art! Very nice post. Mommy was trying to think of things to do for her niece’s 13th birthday. Mommy was thinking of a pottery place — since she saw an ad for one — but really didn’t know what it was all about. Mommy will definately have to visit the pottery place she saw the ad for — hope it’s something like the place you went to — Mommy thought it sounded neat and fun. Mommy was trying to think of an activity her niece and friends might like to do — maybe a pottery place might be a fun way to celebrate the birthday.
Hi Honey! How very artistic! Now mommy wants to get my paw print! Hsin-Yi’s owls are beautiful! What a great way to remember a very special day!
Licks,
Ruthie
Oh! What a lovely post! Congratulations Hsin-Yi on your anniversary! And what a cool way to celebrate!
Honey, you are so talented. Loved your art. And guess what? Now my human wants to get a paw print also…I don´t know if I´ll let her…you see, I don´t like people touching my paws hee-hee…I always give her a tough time when it´s time to trim my nails…
Woof,
Lady and Kat
My goodness, Honey!! Your talents just never end!!! (Happy Anniversary to your people!)
Aww its really lovely, but dont go thinking about the Rainbow Bridge too soon! I can see lots more time together with honey:)xx
That looks GREAT, Honey! Mom dipped the kitties in paint and had them run across a canvas once! And we have Christmas ornaments of Bajas’ and Virus’s paws pressed into salt dough and then baked and painted. I really need to get my paws into some art, too!
Kisses,
Gummi
What a cool thing for your parents to do for their anniversary! Our parents are boring -- they just go skiing (as if that is different for them!)! We love your tile -- that is so cool! We’ll have to talk to our Mom to see if we can get one of those done for each of us -- or maybe one for both of us!

Amazing to see the closeness of you and Hsin-yi…
You are very talented, all the three of you.
Happy Anniversary to your humans! And congrats to Paul on passing his big exam. We have those paint places here too, but no dogs allowed:( Mom loves to take the grandbipeds there. We love what Paul and Hsin-Yi made -- so nice. And your paw painting is marvelous -- a great piece to treasure forever.
Woos -- Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
What a lovely job Honey! It will surely hold fond memories for years to come…
Love this!!! What great pics of you, Honey! And the bowls your humans made are just adorable.
Very classy art… very classy!
What a brilliant way to spend your anniversary, Hsin-Yi! All 3 of you created masterpieces that you will have forever and ever!
Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly
Happy Anniversary!
You did something FUN to remember the special day, and Honey and Muesli got to also be involved.
Again, Happy Anniversary, what a beautiful picture.
Hey, we have a color me mine store near my house too! Who knew they were all the way in Australia! Cool.
I love Paul’s cat dish, and the owls are beautiful, but Honey, yours is truly a work of art. Your humans will treasure that forever.
You all are very artsy.
Your ceramics turned out lovely. I love painting ceramics and find it kind of addictive. Luckily there is no place close here or I would be spending all of my time there.
Happy 15th Anniversary to you!
That’s a great idea! I didn’t know that Honey was such a talented artist! I made a keepsake like that in a plaster mold…..now I have a forever memory of my best friend!
We love it!!!!! Meowm wantsto be able to do those for us!
A great way to destress from the world around you. All three of you are awesome!
Oh Honey! We have one of those shops and my Mommy is ALWAYS in there! Maybe I will has to sweet talk that shop owner into letting me do something similar!
~Mason
They all look lovely! How awesome that you got to make something too, Honey.

Hi Honey, Happy Anniversary to Paul and Hsin-Yi. What a great idea to paint together and yes, it will be a wonderful memory of their anniversary. We loved Muesli’s new bowl and the two little owls. What will the owl bowl be used for? We love the paw print tile too. Great idea. We have some photos of footprints that Brucey made on the summer track where he used to walk. They are a great reminder of him too. See ya soon. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
Happy anniversary Hsin-Yi and Paul!
That looked like a lot of fun. I’ve always wanted to try out ceramic painting too. I hope there would be a place like that somewhere here
Although I’m not very good at painting and drawing and things like that. But if Honey can do it I’m sure I can too!
-Lilli-
That was a lovely way to celebrate an anniversary and to come home with two pieces of ceramic art to remember a relaxing time together.
Hi Honey -- oh what a lovely idea!!!! Now I want to do that too -- your humans will love having this for years to come.
You look as lovely as you did on your wedding day Hsin-Yi. I love the paw tile idea. What a great memory!
Hi Honey! Your Paw Art is very pretty, Hsin-Yi had a great idea!
Elena and Lyra the JRT
First, I have to say that you are a superb artist, Honey. It was nice of Eric to want his own personal Honey The Great Dane tile, and I’m sure it will convince many humans to let their doggies come paint.
But I also wanted to say that Paul and Hsin-Yi’s wedding photo is beautiful, and Hsin-Yi hasn’t aged at all in 15 years! Paul’s gone rather gray, but it looks very good on him. You have kept your humans well, Honey. Give them my love and best wishes for many more happy years.
I just had to make one more Comment to your Heumens Honey LOL
Paul Hsin Yi I dont know how you do it but you two look the same as you did on your wedding day besdes the gray hair Paul and dont worry If you have ever seen a pic of me the gray you see there I was only 36 and I started going gray at 23 UGGG LOL.And no neather of you will ever see me with my Beard lol RIP Vanwinkle looks younger then I do lol
Awww I love it!
Hsin-Yi is so talented! I love her owls!
And your paw print! So clever! I like that the studio owner was pet friendly and allowed you in his shop. I’d think most places with fragile stuff wouldn’t be so keen on having a large dog in their store.
that is cool! we did something rather less enduring with our resident Guide Dog, we made his paw print on someone’s going away card! I sure hope that if I leave before he does, that I get his paw print on my goodbye card.
Hello Honey! I have been quietly following your blog for some time, but have always felt a bit shy to make a comment on it. Congrats to Hsin-Yi and Paul for 15 years, quite an accomplishment! (and Hsin-Yi looks so pretty in the wedding pic!!) I think it’s lovely that you have such a nice blog and are such an artistic doggie. I really look forward to each post so that I can learn of your adventures!! Thank you for brightening my days.
I’ve been following your blog for a few months now and think it is great -- the idea of a “pawprint” on a tile -- wonder if I could get my Candy girl Great Dane to stand still long enough!!?? I’ve got one print when she walked over a dustsheet with dirty paws, but that is not as classy as Honey’s tile… Congrats on all your news and look forward to more. Big hug for Honey and congratulations on your wedding anniversary!!!
The water dish is soooo cute. That’s amazing you were able to recreate your image so well.
We’ve been wanting to stop in at the pottery store we pass on our walks. I think we need to push this to the top of our to do list….never put off to tomorrow. We hadn’t thought about the painted paw print. We were going to do the impression of my paw. Now I’m thinking why not both? Thanks for the great idea!
Emma
Oh, very nice! We had some fun a few weeks ago with poster paints and small canvases -- we ended up with some very nice little miniature paw paintings. I also like your idea for your anniversary. We have our 4th coming up in November -- I’ll have to see if we can do something similar.
Sam
Wow, that is so creative! I LOVE your bowl, very cool. Perhaps you should be doing the artwork in your new book too!
That’s beautiful! You are all great artists.
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
A wonderful idea, this foot painting!
In December 2009 our mom made a footprint in modelling clay, which originally was meant for children and fills a picture frame. After a while on air it becomes hard. Now it hangs at the wall of her working room.
Rainbow bridge…
Perhaps she is near, perhaps she is still far away. Please keep your fingers and paws crossed for Janne. Surgery at Wednesday! Teats tumor. The second time.
Oh Janne -- I’m so sorry to hear about your Tumour Sickie!! I didn’t know! We will definitely be thinking of you on Wednesday and keeping everything crossed for you, that the surgery goes smoothly and they get all the tumour this time! Your poor human must be feeling so worried and stressy. But we know you are a strong girl who is a fighter and we believe that you will conquer this!
Sending lots of healing slobbers --
Honey
Oh what a lovely, original thing to do for celebrating your anniversary, Hsin-Y & Paul! Indeed so much better than all the cliché things you usually get to do on such an occasion. And congrats by the way!!
Greets, Karolien
Honey,
Your artwork is a real masterpiece as well! Very lovely!
Slobbery kiss
Killian
Oh my goodness you all three did fabulous jobs with your artwork! What a fun thing to do.
Happy Anniversary by the way. Just in case I forgot to say it in August lol.
What a lovely photoseries and LOL, Paul painted his kitty bowl pink because of the pink glasses he wears wenn seeing her.
I found this great blog some weeks ago and am still reading from beginning to end. It gives a very vived involvement in Honey’s and Muesli’s life and surroundings.
