Honey has made it through surgery!

Great news! Honey has come through surgery safely – she is apparently awake now and sitting up, looking around (slightly bemused! ;-) )

We had a harrowing day today waiting to hear whether she made it through surgery – she was supposed to be first on the list so we were expecting to hear from the vets by lunchtime but when 1pm had come & gone with no phone call, we were starting to imagine the worst!

They were obviously very busy and although we called several times, the receptionist was always very vague about Honey’s condition…anyway, finally managed to speak to a nurse around 2:30pm who told us that Honey had made it through surgery but hadn’t woken up yet. It was a big relief to know she had made it through the 1st hurdle – but she wouldn’t be completely out of the woods until she woke up properly and was able to stand/walk around…but at least, we could be cautiously optimistic! :-) They promised the veterinary ophthalmologist would call us as soon as he was free…

…which wasn’t until just now, nearly 8pm! (Gosh, what a long operating list he must have had!) – Anyway, he said the operation went really well and Honey did great – coped with the anaesthetic fine and no issues with her heart. She is recovering well – has managed to stand for a bit, although still very confused and woozy.

They are keeping her overnight for monitoring – just to be safe – but otherwise hopefully, we can go & pick her up around lunchtime tomorrow.

I know I keep saying this but thank you, thank you to everybody for all the amazing messages that keep pouring in – and especially for all you who have been “waiting” with us during the horrible long time today.

Hopefully, the next post will be from Honey herself – ready to tell you all about her surgical adventures – and show off her “new look”! ;-)

What a day you guys have had, sleep well, I’m sure you’re exhausted. Give Honey an extra cuddle for us from Perth and I hope this means everything will now go smoothly for a change as you prepare for the big move. Love Lisa and Odie.

  6. That is wonderful news. Don’t forget that it can take giant dogs longer to get all the anesthesia out of their systems, so she will be dorky and wobbly for a day or so. Can’t wait to see her post. What a strong girl she is.

  11. 8:40 am Wednesday here in Michigan. I am ear to ear smiles at the wonderful news. You are such a wonderful family! I wanted Honey to be with you for a long time yet!

Again, I am very happy. I don’t know the right words to say, except that INDEED, you do have people all around the world who love you and Honey and only want the best for you.

Shadow, Lucy, and Britches (the cat) are all here in the office with me. I so value my “animal family”. They are good company as I live alone. I felt so vulnerable as Honey has gone through her health problems, and was praying that she would be ok. Apparently, the prayers are answered!

  12. I have only recently come across Honey’s blog but have been watching closely for news on her surgery. Am SO happy for all of you that she came through it ok!

  19. My Dear Super Great Dane Honey, Happy December 12, 2012! I hope you are resting comfortably at the doggie hospital. I know the nurses and doctors at SASH are taking the best of care of the most famous Great Dane in the world. Those at SASH know you mean so much to those of us around the world and how much we value your slobbers, adventures, food tasting, trips to the mountains, walks with your humans and most of all, dancing. I will sleep well to night knowing my little (big) friend in Brisbane is out of the woods after your ouchie was taken care of. I wouldn’t lick the patches on your back, they will taste terrible. I have patches myself, a human, and have gotten the yuck taste on my fingers accidentally Honey. It will take quite a few licks and laps from a big bowl of water to get the awful taste out of your doggie mouth. I know when you go home Paul and Hsin Yi will spoil you with lots of love, tummy rubs, a doggie favorite, and perhaps with the muffins you love. I am slobbering in your honor today Honey. Have a restful day at the doggie hospital and I look forward to your blog when you are feeling better and want to paw a few words on the computer. You are so beautiful and Pawwfect Honey!!! Dawn in California

  20. Soooo relieved! I will be most relieved when she is home and back to her honey self so will keep paws crossed until then! You all have been in our thoughts yesterday and today (though I was confused about the time date difference so she was out of surgery before I even knew she was in so my good vibes were tardy!)
Big hugs and continued good vibes coming your way!

  21. Yay Honey! I’m sure your new look is just as beautiful as your old one :) Tears of joy for you and your family.

    Have a lovely recovery,
    Love,
Savannah & Buckley the Great Dane

  22. What a big relief! I was so nervous ad checked twitter, fb and Honey’s blog all the day long!

  30. We are very pleased to read that beautiful Honey has come through her operation. We wish her her a happy and healthy future.

  31. My Dear Honey,
We all knew that there were too many positive wishes and forces from all of us doggies, kittens & humans all over the globe to keep you from stepping into the rainbow bridge. I’m sure we will soon see your lovely face once again. Ah! Merry X-mass in advance.

  32. Oh, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! I’ve been on such tenterhooks that I couldn’t bring myself to blog about life with Penny. Now I can release that breath I’ve been holding and get back to regular life. I’m sending good wishes for continuing recovery.

  33. Congratulations to all! I knew you could do it Honey! I’m so happy for all of you. Maybe your mom can relax now. Be a good girl now. Slobbers

  34. Honey, we have been following your progress from Ottawa, Canada. You are such a strong girl and have such loving humans. We are sure that you are taking good care of them (and Muesli as well). Best wishes to all of you during the holidays.

  35. Oh Honey ~
My person and I have only met you this week. I & my 2 sister-cats were introduced to you and Lemon because our person thought we needed to see that we should be able to get along better (like you and Lemon-kitty)….. and, I agree. We should get along better and we’ll use you and Muesli as our role models.

I’ve just this evening learned of your surgery.
I will be told more about what happened later, but for the moment, I just want to say how MUCH I’m hoping everything is ok w/you and your beautiful golden eyes.

I also wanted to comment on how lovely your PJs and coats are. If you were to come visit me, you would DEFINITELY need them here in Alaska. And I must say GirlFriend, you know how to “work it” in front of the camera when you’re modeling them too !! Are you a professional?

Anyway, we ALL here hope you are well and that you and Muesli-kitty are getting along.
