My proper name is:
Yacanto A Taste of Honey

But everyone calls me: Honey

Breed: Great Dane

Colour: Fawn

Age: 8 yrs old

Weight: about 70kg (150lbs)

Height: 35″ at the shoulder

My breeders are:
Kim & John Wylie at Yacanto Great Danes, NZ

My daddy, Blade (Yacanto Dato Star), came from the UK and was a famous show champion and my mummy, Brenna (Faondein Done for Di), came from Australia – but I was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand. When I was 7 weeks old, I got my very own humans! I was so proud – I was the first of all my brothers and sisters to get humans.

For more about me as a baby, visit the Baby Photos page

I live with: my humans, Paul and Hsin-Yi .

I also had a “kitty sister”, Lemon, the Tortoishell Moggie but sadly, she was taken from us at only 5yrs old by a mystery sickie when she as staying in the pet hotel and went to the Rainbow Bridge in Jan 2009.

Lemon – we miss you terribly.

My humans adopted Lemon from the Auckland SPCA rescue shelter (in NZ) when she was 7 weeks old too, so we could grow up together and play together – and so I would have somebody to boss me around at home.

Here is a beautiful movie showing me & Lemon growing up together from babies and our lives together, playing, exploring & snoozing…I will never have a ‘best friend’ like her again: http://bighoneydog.com/2010/01/honey-and-lemon/

.

Recently, 2 yrs after we lost Lemon, we finally felt ready to add another kitty to our family. So introducing…Muesli! She is also a moggie, adopted from the Australian RSPCA. Things were a bit stressy when she first arrived but we are now good friends! You can see how we became friends here

What a poppet! We’re a Dane family too; we have Lizzie (5 yrs 2 months -- we lost her wonderful brother on 1st August last year to DCM -- she also has the condition), Harley (Harlequin rescue lad 7 yrs old), his ‘partner’ Cinders, black bitch, almost 10 (also rescue dog), and a rescue young greyhound, Sacha of just 1 yr old. Great Danes Rock!!! But we love Sacha just as much -- she’s as mad as a box of frogs!

  20. Journey says:

    Hi Honey!! :D
Man, you are so smart. I wish my mommy would teach me so many tricks too :(

I just found your blog today. You are such an interesting dog!
And you are sooo big! I’m a small (but big enough) chocolate lab girl outta Germany. I only understand German, although my (as I see him) great pyrenees grandpa Buddy only understands English. He’s out of Texas!

I’m so sorry about Lemon, Honey. :( Buddy is pretty old too… I’m hoping he’ll leave us peacefully. He told me about Annabelle, his girlfriend back in the day. She didn’t leave us peacefully…and that made me sad. I still feel my mommmy’s devestation sometimes when she talks about her…
But now she has me! :D
Well, I’ll keep checking in on your blog. It’s super interesting and there are great tips and tricks for my mommy so she can teach me cool things.

    Byes!!
Journey, the happy lab girl outta Germany.

  21. You are one smart pup! Talent, smarts, and beauty!

  23. Larry Brown says:

I just recently purchased a male fawn Great Dane on January 29, 2012. He was born on December 1, 2011, so he is just a little over 2 months old. His first vet full check up and exam was a few days after I got him and he passed with flying colors. He weighed in at 17.9lbs, but has grown since then. His next vet visit is February 21, 2012. His mother is an American Great Dane and his father is a European Great Dane from which I understand will give him a beefier chest. My vet has predicted that he will weigh between 180 to 240lbs when he reaches his full growth potential. My vet also has a couple of Great Danes at her home, so she is very well versed when it comes to Great Danes. He will be growing up with Paco, a Chuawawa and pit bull mixed dog that is smaller than our great dane puppy and Cuddles a gray stripped cat.

Thank you so very much in sharing your story about Honey. You have more than inspired me to do the same thing with my male fawn Great Dane. I haven’t quite as yet picked out a name for him as yet, but I thinking about the name of either Rambo or Tank. He will be starting obediance training this coming April. By the way, I live in Taylor, Missouri USA. Please send me your email address. I would love to send you a few photos that I have already taken of him.

    Larry Brown

    • Omg did you get him from the Taylor Danes people? Because that’s where I got my fawn male Dane came from. His mom is champion over here in the USA and his dad is champion over in the UK. Please respond and tell me about yours. If you do respond I would like to send you pics of him.
